Green Cheek Conure "Oliver Queen"
I'm very excited to have found this forum! I am no longer window shopping the birdie websites because I have recently adopted a Green Cheek Conure into my family and my life is complete once again! I'm getting the male vibe off of "him", but I haven't had him DNA tested. His name is Oliver Queen (with my hopes of calling him Ollie, but my husband is not allowing it). I have been window shopping all of the local stores for many years, but with a reluctant husband, I had resolved to not getting a bird for quite some time. Then life changed when I wandered into a local pet shop and this little conure picked me and my son. He was just a bundle of personality and love. Over the next couple of weeks, I couldn't stop thinking of him and visiting him. One day, I convinced my husband to meet my bird (who I had already named, much to the dismay of my husband). The bird immediately took to him, preening his hair and showing off. As life would have it, money was tight. Tighter than any other time of the year because of vehicle problems and recent health issues. However, fate intervenes sometimes. A stranger, a complete and total stranger, was visiting the bird and saw the interactions between this wonderful bird and our family. We all struck up a conversation and traded birdie stories. Out of the blue, this wonderful lady offered something I would have never imagined could ever happen. She offered to loan us the money to adopt this bird. Now, think of it, a random customer, wanting this bird to have a good home, offered to loan complete strangers more than $300. I have never had anything like this happen before and was utterly speechless. After quite a long deliberation, I accepted the offer (something else I would NEVER do normally) and the beautiful green cheek conure came home with us. I believe we were destined to go to THAT store at THAT moment to have THAT bird as member of our family.

A little background on me: I am a life long bird lover. As a child, I cared for many birds, mostly rescues. My first real experience with a bird was a lovebird, who was not hand fed and, after many months of beak shaped gouges on various parts of my body, I gained the trust and love of this bird. She passed away 8 years ago and the age of 14 years old. She was everything anyone could ever hope for in a bird and she truly changed my life. We also cared for 2 other lovebirds, 3 cockatiels, 1 red lore amazon, 1 umbrella cockatoo and an african grey. All are/were great birds, as anyone on this forum would know.

I hope to help add my knowledge and experience to the mix on this website, as well as getting tips from all of my fellow bird lovers!

See you all soon!

Wow! What a story! Yes, that's quite amazing, but that really shows it was meant to be. Definitely was the right place at the right time. Welcome to the forum :)

Yes, with an 8 year old son, our dog is Harley Quinn (a pekingese). I asked my son, if we had a fish, what would you name it? His response: Arthur. Why Arthur? That's Aquaman's real name!

What a great story! Thank you for sharing it. I love my babies, but my next feathered baby will be a green cheek conure- I just love them! Congratulation and welcome!

What a wonderful story! Definitely restores some faith in humanity. Love the Arrow reference! I just started watching it after some pushing from my friends. Still trying to get into it, but I decided to give it a chance because of John Barrowman, excuse me Capt Jack Harkness.
