1- SUN CONURE
Hello!!

I'm am so excited to be able to bring home my first sun conure in a few weeks. I've previously owned 2 cockatiels (both passed of old age) and cared for my dad's Congo African Grey after my dad became blind.

Our conure was born 5/17 and has yet to be named. Luckily I am able to visit it on a weekly basis until it is ready to come home.

We're stuck on names, adamant on staying away from the literal sunny, rainbow, skittles, etc. Our top contenders are Loki and Beamer.

In the mean time, we ordered a larger, beautiful cage and I am very excited to start filling it up!! Anyone have recommendations on toys their conure just can't live with out??

I look forward to being an active part of the community and learning from experienced conure owners! ;)

Aw, Sun Conures are beautiful! I love the name Loki! Ladders and climbing toys are a hit always, and this unusual toy is fantastic, especially if you've got a female. It encourages foraging and nesting! It's actually recommended specifically for Conures! (My mac loves it though!)

Welcome to the Community!

Congrats! I just got my first sun Chico a couple months ago. He's 5 years old and he is awesome! I've wanted a sun for years and finally got one when I got back into the bird world. As for toys, he likes just about anything he can chew up.

My sun conure liked rope toys that she could weave into a nest. She also liked her 'binky'-a birdie hut made of cloth.

Congratulations on your new family member!

Silly, but my birds have been CRAZY about the 'ball of cane'. I would sometimes buy multiples because it was the first to be completely, deliciously destroyed. Gilbert will chew long pieces off and then roll around, babbling to them, throwing them with his feet while lying on his back. Both my conures picked this as their favorite. Go figure.
parrot ball toys, foraging toys, talon toys for parrots

Welcome! Does he have a mischevious "Loki" personality? I like that one the best. Ducati seems to love rope toys the best. I bought him a whole bunch of shredder/hidden treat toys and he seems to just want to chew up his rope toy and his mirror. I don't know if all Suns are like this, but Ducati loves his mirror. We catch him flirting with himself all the time.

Thank you for the wonderful recommendations everyone! I have put every single one on the list to purchase! Bird is already spoiled and not even home yet!

I'm getting anxious

Not quite sure, we purchased him at 2 months old, and I have visited him once a week since. He is still very baby-like. Once I get it home, I will certainly update.

What is everyone's opinion on DNA for sexing? I hope to have it around for a while and am really leaning towards finding out definitively whether we have a male or female on our hands!

More people would be able to tell which kit is better or if there is a better one. I just googled "bird dna sexing kit" and got so many lol. I've never had to do it. I hear the at home kits are cheaper than going to the vet, but I don't know what they entail as far as how to get the dna sample. If it's something you're paranoid to do yourself then definitely let the vet do it. It'll cost more but you'll have more peace of mind, (that's why I'm taking Ducati in to get his nails clipped. I get to paranoid clipping my cat and dog's nails and they don't move lol).

The wonderful and reputable store in our city offers it for $35. I'm very tempted!!
