Just new to the forum I'm Andrew and the captain is a 3 year old greenwinged macaw we all love him dearly
We also have 3 Staffies and a cat who have all learned to accept he's smarter than them
Had his beak and claws trimmed last week for the first time at the vets. He bled slightly which we didn't expect any advise folks

Probably clipped the nails just slightly too short... that's why he bled.

Welcome to the forum. If it's already been a couple days, he's well on his way to healing up:) Parrots have blood supply to their talons, beaks and at a certain stage of feather regeneration, feathers too (blood feathers). If talons are clipped too short (it happens sometimes and can bleed a lot), apply styptic to stop the bleeding and I always like to pour some peroxide over the toe over the next 24 hours to prevent infection (blot dry with a clean cloth). Beyond a little infection prevention, it'll heal up quickly on it's own and no permanent damage will be done:) Hope you'll share some pics of The Captain:)

Welcome to the forum! Can't really give any advice on a macaw as I've never had one. I've always loved them. So majestic looking and beautiful birds. They just always seemed too much for me to handle lol. If only I had a friend that lived nearby with one lol.

Welcome and congratulations on your new family member. Occasionally you will get bleeding after a toe nail grip because the 'quick' was clipped. Let the staff know the next time you take him in.
