I just wanted to intraduce myself and tell allittle bit of why i chose here
and about myself.

first off like everybody else i love birds especialy cockattoos
i worked at an aquarium and helped take care of six large parrots in a small indoor aviary. I always wanted one for myself but i cant afford one since im 21 years old and a college boy.
my other interests involve tropical rainforest plants in which i hope to have an indoor rainforest somday in side a greenhouse
i allso likk coral reef aquariums in which i currently have a 50 gallon up and thriving.

I chose this site so i can take care of my future bird the best I can and help me against potential problems. I also want to adopt a pet bird at a price that isn't back breaking.

Hope im not rambling and i just want to say im thrilled i found this site!!

Welcome! It's a smart idea to learn all you can about parrots before getting one, so you're off to a good start. There's a lot of useful information on this Forum, and friendly and knowledgeable people who will answer any questions you have. Your indoor rainforest idea is an interesting one; hope you'll get to realize that dream someday.

congo gray, merlin 37 yrs old
hi brad, gad to hear from another bird lover. both of our congo grays have come to us free of charge from loving homes who just couldn't keep them. an owner death brought merlin to us, a severe allergy brought sophie to us. over the past 30 years we have taken several large birds in for emergency situations. i just love them all. we have had an umbrella, several amazons, a few grays and a macaw. i have to say congos are the best in my book. i just love our family. they seem to know the other birds are in need of help and don't see them as a threat. i have never worked with a rescue before so don't know much about them. sophie and merlin's previous famlies wanted to find their new forever homes themselves. it will happen for you when the time is right. best of luck.

Parrot adoption is very serious. Just like it is with humans being adopted. Parrots should not be visited by or adopted by anyone that is not fully capable of meeting their many complex needs.
The better parrot adoption foundatins will also visit you home to inspect the potential environment as they well should.

i wasnt trying to be offensive or sarcastic
i was just trying to be funny and keeping it light by sayin how we work for the parrots
i think parrot adoptions are great
but i do think they should just talk with future adopters instead of making them filling out applications
they could still ask questions and find out if the person is the right adopter
didnt mean to offend was just trying to make conversation

he says he loves the bird so much he just wants her to go to a good and loving home
he is not charging me anything and is giving me her large double cage
i want to do my best by this bird and do what ever it takes to keep lily happy
im prepared to change my life style and im confident

Congrat's Brad, wish you many hours of fun with Lily.
Glad you are getting the cage she is used to, helps her to settle in much quicker.
Sure you are going to do your best, just take it easy, day by day.
I reckon we are all a little nervous when getting a new bird, this period will fade out quickly.
Keep us posted, with her progress
Good luck
