I was told when I got my cockatoo from a pet store that it was a 3 year old female umbrella cockatoo but someone told me if she's 10 years old now and hasn't ever laid an egg, it might be a boy. Does any cockatoo owners out there know if that's true because she is very hormonal but never laid an egg.:white1:

The only way to know for sure is to have a vet run a DNA gender test. Most pet female cockatoos do not lay infertile eggs. They become hormonal, but their body just doesn't kick-start the laying process. In fact, most of the large parrots do not generally lay infertile eggs in a domestic home setting.

That's not true!!!!!! They can and will lay infertile eggs if opportunity was given. There's people that come in here often asking about their big parrots laying eggs.

They can go through hormones even at 3 years old. What made you think she's 10 years old?

Cockatoos can be visually sexed if you can provide some info about her such as her specie and eye coloring.

I got Bella when she was 3 And now she's 10. Her eyes are black. How do you look at the eyes and tell if it's a girl or boy. That sounds interesting? I really believe she's a girl, especially how hormonal she acts all the time. Thanks for the info.

Omg I just googled sexing cockatoos by eye color and I think my Bella is a boy after 10 years. She has black eyes but I will do the blood test one day to be sure. Maybe that's why she's so grumpy, she's a he named Bella. She had her name when I got her.
