My name is Liz and I live in Buffalo, NY. I do not currently own a bird. I had a lovebird named Budgey (because my mom insisted she looked like a budgie-which of course she didn't, but the name stuck!) who recently passed. I had her for 14 years.

I'm hoping someday to adopt another bird, but currently my apartment is no pets allowed.

Welcome to the forums Liz, maybe it's a good thing you've come here before you bring your next feathered friend home. Stick around here enough and you'll have all the answers we do.....

Glad to have you aboard.....

Hello Liz and welcome!
I'm sorry to hear about your loss of Budgey:(
I am glad you joined us, and hopefully you will be in a place that allows pets before too long.

Hi Liz, welcome. Are you sure your apartment won't take birds? I've lived in lots of communities in the past which are "no pets" but they mean dogs and cats (and maybe ferrets ;) I've ALWAYS been told that birds are okay. Not sure if it's different in New York. Good luck!

Hey there, Liz and Welcome! Fourteen years is a long time, I'm sorry for your loss.

Do you have a particular species in mind for your next bird? I hope things work out soon so you can welcome a new friend.

It might be possible, my one roommate managed to have a fish for a while XD My landlord is a bit unpredictable with this sort of stuff, and by the time I do my research and find a bird, I'll probably be in a new place anyway (my current lease ends in less than a year)

I've really fallen in love with Indian Ringnecks lately, though I'm still in the very early stages of researching. In general, I'd like a medium-sized bird. Part of the reason for that is honestly I had such a difficult time finding toys for Budgey! Everything in the local pet stores seemed to cater to medium to large birds, not so much for smaller birds. But I don't want a bird that's too big, since I'll be living in apartments for the foreseeable future so space will be limited.

Welcome Liz! Sorry to hear about Budgey. I can see why you would be interested in IR's. They are gorgeous birds. I hope to eventually convince my husband we need another bird in our little zoo and I love the IR's. If you're going to be living in an apartment for a while I wouldn't suggest a Sun (just my personal experience, it may vary for others). Ducati is really loud when he wants to be. I've had neighbors yell at me to close the windows. He's gotten alot better than he used to be, but we're still working on it.
