Pineapple Green Cheek Conures
Hi Everyone,

On Saturday we decided to purchase a pair (sexes unknown) of Pineapple green cheek conures. We have been told they are roughly a year old although I suspect they are a little younger, they were apparently aviary bred so a little shy at the moment.

They were purchased from a large pet store so hence the little information we got about them :( we would of liked to know their hatch date etc but alas we decided that we could give them a better home than what they currently had.

We did some research first before diving in, like what cage and toys to purchase and behaviour etc. They have only been with us two days but appear happy and active, the attached picture of them is just before bedtime last night. Today we started work trying to feed them from hand and of course they were having none of it although they did start to appear to get a little more comfortable having a big hand in their space!

We really do love them and would really appreciate any help or advice any of you can give, especially with regards to taming them, we hope this is possible with birds that have not been hand reared? Other forums we have read seem to give us hope :)

Once sexed we shall name them, for now they are just called "pretty bird" lol very original . . . :rainbow1:

Welcome! Steady as she goes. Offering food and toys with your hands - making your hands mean good things - will bring them around. Don't worry, they're so smart! Go to the conure forum page and there are tons of threads and pieces of info that have helped me tremendously with my cinnamon green cheek.

Welcome to the forums CC, glad you decided to join us.....

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm afraid that if the pet store could not give you their hatch dates, nobody else will be able to either.....

Congratulations on your decisions to give your new feathered friends new homes.....

Like LP said, there is a lot of information and experience around here, but none with the hocus-pocus...at least none that I know of, though there are older members around here, as well as those who've been around here longer.....again, welcome.....

Welcome and congratulations on your two new cuties! Time and patience will help them come around. Talk to them near the cage. Try to offer treats from your hand. Let them come to you. They will let you know if they are ready. Again, with a little time and patience things will progress! Good luck!

Hello and welcome! Your two little ones are adorable. So sweet sitting so close to each other! I agree with the above advice on training, relax, enjoy getting to know them and give them time to adjust to their new home and humans. :)

We have been told they are roughly a year old although I suspect they are a little younger, they were apparently aviary bred so a little shy at the moment.

It was very kind of you to give these two a loving home. I'm sure it's great to know actual hatch days and it's really helpful to be able to give the accurate age to the vet, but I think you'll find it isn't critical. We celebrate "Gotcha Days" instead, the birds don't sweat the technicalities as long as the birdie bread and toys are acceptable. :)

Thanks for all the wonderful comments, we love them so much already! Still a little overwhelmed with how to go about training two of them when they wont leave each others side. Still we shall get there and in the meantime there are a lot of YouTube videos to watch!!
