Parrots
Two cockatiels
Six budgies
Hi everyone.
I have a big cage with two cockatiels in it.
I had a smaller cage with two budgies in it.
I have bought a dublicate of the first cage for
The budgies as I would like more than two.
I have googled to find out all different views.
Still don't know if you should have a boy and all girls
Or a few boys and a few girls.
I'm not interested I breeding.
I just want them to be happy and not fight.
The cage is approx 5 foot high and 3 foot wide.
Help please. :green2:

First, do you know the sex of the two Budgies you have already?

I've only had 2 males, but I know that Budgies are VERY prolific! I would personally have a cage of males only. No too many, as you don't want it crowded for both obvious reasons and territoriality. I'm not sure how it works when you don't give them a breeding box, I'm not familiar with breeding (purposely OR accidentally). Good luck.

Budgies do well in little "flocks" and cage size determines how many you can have (they need a lot of room per bird). The more you have though, the less likely they are to be "tame" and sociable. They flock up and have little interest in their human caretakers. If you don't want them to reproduce, then don't house males and females together, or better yet, pick one gender for all of them! You'd be surprised how many people don't think about the ramifications of housing males and females together and are quite surprised when they have babies:20:

I would say 2-3 budgies per cage would be "comfortable" :) Lots of room for each individual, lots of room for toys/perches and several feeders so there aren't food fights.

I have a 31w x 20.5d x 53h flight cage that houses 4 budgies right now- 2 boys and 2 girls... So far no babies lol I make sure they don't have any places to nest, or any nesting material...everyone has their own food dish, which keeps squabbling to a minimum lol

Fights still break out regardless of gender though lol I've had to break up a couple fights -nothing serious, just one pulling the other's tail for no apparent reason other than it was in their face haha budgies will be budgies!
