Hi, I am new to the community. I have two macaws, Hootie is a blue and gold, and Alex is a green wing. I was wondering if anyone else has a problem with your parrot being in constant heat? I have been doing rescues for years and not run across with this problem. I keep taking away the objects of their desire, but they just move on to something else. Stumped in MN :red1::confused::blue:

Welcome to the forum.

How old are your birds? Parrots typically have a terrible first few years after they become sexually mature, as their bodies haven't adjusted or learned how to regulate the natural spikes in hormones yet, nor has the bird ever felt the effects before and learned how to cope. It's a very chaotic time in a birds life, but if handled right, after a few "bad years" they learn how to cope with it better and they mellow out a lot. It's like the birdy teen years!

Also interesting to note- This year in particular, for whatever random reason the universe has thrown at us poor unexacting parrot owners, it has seemed to be a really really bad one for everyones birds in regards to hormones AND molting:(

Hi Jean, welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay.....

Are we talking males, females or one of each? As long as they're of the same sex, the only problem would be the practicing and that's probably frustration at not having been able to fulfill their natural destinies.....

It could be the water too, I've heard that the water around Apple Valley has unique properties, you don't live in Apple Valley, do you ? ? ?

Hello and welcome, Jean! Enjoy your time on the forums.

As weco and Kiwibird pointed out, a little more information would be helpful, specifically age and gender.

We'd love to see pics of Hootie and Alex. :)
