Hi I'm new to this. I have a 20 month old Congo name sparky. She is very sweet and I love her a lot. I perchased a new carrier for her, Pac-A-Bird. Med.. she is afraid of it. I have to take her to the vet. To have her wings clipped she is able to fly very well. I have introduced the carrier to her for about a week now. I also have it attached to the side of her sleep cage (on top) so she is able to go in it, but she won't. I tried coaching with food and I have all kinds of toys dangling. How can I get her to go in it??? Desperate :) please help. Thank you, Gina:confused:

She sounds stubborn:D My bird was practically diving in it as I was setting his pak-o-bird up.

How do you have the carrier in regards to the side panels? Have you tried coaxing her in with the "flaps" rolled down? Some birds are more responsive to darker spaces and more willing to explore... Have you tried removing the dishes and dish holders? I found they take up a whole lot of room and you don't need them for short trips! You didn't say, so I thought I'd ask- have you tried to put her in the carrier vs just allowing her to explore on her own? Simply telling her to step down on the perch, then rewarding if she does, or does she back up your arm? My other option would be to get the carrier down on the floor and make a REALLY big deal about how fun it was. You'll feel like a fool, but play with the toys, pretend to eat the treats, mess around with your hands in the carrier so she sees how fun and safe it is. If you have a spouse or kid or friend around who can help, have them play around in the carrier and "give" them her favorite reward when they do so she sees the carrier could yield her rewards. Parrots are flock animals, so if they see their flock having fun and getting treats, she may be more encouraged to come check it out!

Thank you so much for your reply:) I do have the flops rolled up and both bowls in it. Will deffinitly try what you suggested. I did not think of that. . My husband will be home in a few weeks (in the military) and hopefully he can help me. But for now my grandson can help. Problem is she flys. Her main cage is in the living room but she has her sleep cage in her bedroom/computer room:) that is where I keep her carrier. She is extremely stubborn but sweet. I will try what you suggested. I pray it works. Her flying has become dangerous. Thanks again :) :)
