leg and feature of my parrot is not nornal

My parrot leg is broken i guess..his is not keeping his weight on left foot..all the fingers are folded and spraying beside..it happened 6 days back. He was resting in his cage and a cat catches his one of the feather..he struggled a lot and manages to keep himself away. Finally some of the feathers were snatched by that cat..he lost that feather from the root..there was blood on his body and tail..he was scared a lot..he didn't speak for 3 days and the main.issue is his one of the leg is not working normally.
What should i do? Anybody please help.my parrot is my life.he used to play with me..eat with me.. Previously He used come in my hand jumping but now he is so idle..any one please help

The best advice anyone here can give you is to take your bird to the vet as soon as possible. Do you know if there are any avian (bird) vets in your area? If not, ANY vet would be better than leaving it be. It looks paralyzed (but I am not sure). Please keep the cat away from him, and keep him warm and calm. Look for a vet and bring him asap! Keep us posted.

Second that! An injury should be faced-on with a vet visit ASAP before any serious or permanent damage can be done. In your case, I would try get in an emergency visit because a cat's claw can seriously harm and possibly kill a bird.

Is there any vet on this website or forum..i am in am small city and guys i am unable to find any veterinary doctor..if there is anyone??????

His leg looks dislocated to me, but regardless if it's dislocated or broken, the only hope of fixing the leg is a vet, preferably an avian one. And don't wait, he needs to go now. The longer these things have to heal wrong, the harder they re to fix without leaving the bird with some disability.

I would also strongly suggest never allowing the cat around the bird. If the bird is out, put the cat in another room and if the cat is in the room, keep the bird in it's cage. Obviously this in not one of those situations where they can coexist peacefully!

Even if there were a veterinarian here, there would be nothing they could do for your bird except possibly make recommendations, but if you have no veterinarian near you, those recommendations would be of little value.

What town and state are you in, maybe we could locate the name and contact for a veterinarian near you from here.....

And just so you know, even if there's nothing the vet can do to fix the leg, this is NOT something to euthanize him over! I bring this up because many vets do not see birds lives as important and would suggest killing them. My moms bird broke her foot some years back, and 2 vets suggested killing her over it. Needless to say, that did not happen and she is alive, healthy and happy today. She also has another bird with reduced mobility due to a stroke who also has a happy life, just needs some special accommodations to get around easier.

In fact, many people have disabled birds who lead happy, healthy full lives They have an amazing ability to overcome disabilities and there are a lot of people on this forum with birds who are disabled who can guide you into making a few accommodations in the cage/play area to help your bird get around better But that's saying a vet can't fix the leg problem. Hopefully, it can be re-set and your birdie heals completely

Thank you, Kiwibird! I find that that statement is way underused when people recommend taking their animals to the vet. I was heart broken to hear that my friends cockatiel was euthanized because of a broken leg.

Along the thoughts of KB's & EAI's posts, there is a propensity for members to almost demand that a poster take their ill or injured bird to a qualified avian veterinarian, without considering that there are many bird owners who have no local access to veterinarians of any type, let alone those avian qualified.....

Most birds will make a good recovery from a broken leg, My Senegal had an accident and dislocated it's foot joint. Though slightly limited in it's grip, made a very good recovery. Second, the parrot looks up to you as part of it's flock, it's protector. It's in pain, of course, but also feels let down that a "predator" nearly gotten it and your it's protector.

That said, cat's and birds don't mix, There's no one that can tell me different. Sure there are cases where you see a bird and cat playing. Guarantee you at some stage that friendly cat will turn. Birds are a natural food source for a cat. And a cat ( a typical house cat) can take down a bird 3 times it's size.

A friend of my wife took in 4 parrots, though having 3 cats, I thought it was a disaster waiting to happen. She assured me the cats don't bother the birds. One day she came home and all 4 birds were dead. The cats got them. I new she didn't have the brains to see that coming. Never under estimate a cat. They may not touch a sitting parrot, but they sure love to catch things that flutter and fly. Get my drift, a parrot will eventually flap it's wings or fly when startled. Don't subject a bird with a cat around....that's not fair to them.

That said, hope your bird makes a healthy recovery.

So do yourself a favor, the cat and bird don't mix, one has to go or keep separate at all times.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope everything works out. I can't really add anymore than what's already been said as far as taking care of your babies foot. Good luck and keep us posted.
