Hi everyone. I am new to this site and mainly joined coz I bought a 2yo female Eckie that is the sweetest gentle thing and loves to be with me at all times. She has been doing that thing (can't remember what you experts :):) call it) but she is trying to get my attention to mate with her and for obvious reasons this just won't happen. Any suggestions?? She also lets out this ridiculous screech when I put her back in her large cage (I also have 3 dogs, 1 cat (rescue found at 1 day old and hand reared) 2 Galah's and a disabled baby yellow sided conure, the Galah's and the baby conure are rescues and I saved them from death row and they are my babies :))
Any suggestions with the Eckie would be great as I have never owned one before. Btw she has huge amount of climbing and playing things in her cage. pics of all my fur and feathered babies to follow :)

Welcome to the Forum, Rubytheeccie! And congratulations on this newest member of your flock! She is absolutely beautiful! And thank you for sharing pics of all of your pets as well. They all look quite happy and well cared for.

As for Ruby's mating behaviors, what exactly is she doing? Body movements? Is she regurgitating for you? Either way, the response is the same. You call no attention to it. No big, overt reactions, as she might interpret that as encouragement and continue or even increase the behavior.

Also, if she is doing body motions that indicate she's actively trying to court you, you'll want to refrain from petting her back, under her wings, or around her vent area. (Yeah, that last is obvious. But just throwing it out here, anyhow.) These areas can further stimulate and arouse a bird already in a hormonal state.

Thank you for the warm welcomes and lovely words on my family. Yes they are very well cared for they are spoiled rotten and have me wrapped around their lil finger just as it should be in my house but I think to the disgust of my partner lol

Ruby's behaviour is she lowers her body when she is near me, stretches her neck out like a goose raises her tail feather and gently flasher wings. It doesn't bother me at all but if it is not good for her then I certainly need to do what I have to do to help her.

Ruby is the sweetest girl, I have had her for not even 2 weeks yet, sadly I am her 3rd parrent but I guarantee I will be her last, sad that ppl can give up any of their babies for whatever reason, last owner sold her to a store coz she wouldn't breed, maybe they gave her up a week early but I am happy they did else I wouldn't have got the honor to be her parrent.

She is very tame, I put my hand straight into her cage with no fear or words and she is eager to jump on my hand and cuddle me and show me nothing but love. She does have a fetish with my fingernails, facial piercings, earrings and jewellery lol sometimes I do have to fight her with them lol but she is gentle.

The only thing I am not a fan of is her screeching. Because I have other animals that also have the run of the house and I don't trust my cat or dogs with any of my birds (awful bad situation already happened before and I will do everything in my power to make sure it never happens again, I still cry for Kiah my 18mo Galah that was the perfect feathered baby :(. Is there anything I should be doing to teach her that her screeching is a NO. She only does it when she is in her cage or if she can't see me properly. Any suggestions :)

Thanks again everyone xxx

No worries, my girl Jillie does this to me all the time. It's her way of saying "Hey look how beautiful I am come pick me up!" Also she is the only one that lets out a big screech when I leave the room even when they are out playing she would like it if I spent 100% of the time being her personal slave. That is just a female eclectus for you. Now if you said she was shredding everything, hiding in dark spaces, attacking like a protection dog on duty, repeated laying eggs then those are mating issues you want to try to redirect as much as you can, but that fluttering I love, I call it her "flutter-love wings".:D

Does your female eckie do what I call "the airhorn" noise?

I fostered a female eckie that did an airhorn noise every time she was displeased that I set her down and walked away from her.

no, wouldn't say it sounded like an air horn, I'm guessing it's a normal Eckie screech and I do blv she is just telling me get me out and be my slave as you put it perfectly lol. I work 60hrs a week and sadly can't be here for her all the time but I spend as much time as I can (she comes out for like 3-4 hrs every night). The screech only gets to me when I'm trying to sleep and she hears me cough and let's one out, omg scares the crap out of me and out of the dogs who are all sleeping on my bed.. My partner on the other hand wasn't really impressed that I got her so this is just giving him ammo lol
