Hello my name is Dorian and I had a love bird when I was younger. It was hand fed and I don't remember it being really afraid of me. It was my second bird because the one that was originally sold to me was so sweet and tame but died like a week later from unknown sources so they gave me the second one to replace it. I may have been young but I had to take care of it by myself because I had wanted it. We had a very good bond. I'm looking to getting a green checked conure now. I'm stuck between a pineapple one that is a couple of months, really shy but isn't nippy..(.yet lol ) and a turquoise one fresh weaned that is so calm..almost too calm? And doesn't care what I do to it. The turquoise one is 100 more so I'm more hesitant to buy it but is so sweet. .like my first bird that was really sick... so yeah. The pineapple one is so shy tho and I want it to be a family bird. I put a down payment on the pineapple because it seemed more active tho. Do you think with time I can turn it into A family bird? Feed back would be really really really great since I have to make a decision by this afternoon

Welcome to the forum, Dorian. :)

Are these conures located at a breeder or at a pet shop? Whichever may be the case, regardless which one you decide to bring home, I'd have either one checked out by an Avian Vet as soon as possible to rule out any disease/ailments.

As for which bird to choose? Try and let the bird choose YOU. :)

It is very hard to give any opinion without having met them, but a bird will usually be shy of strangers, it's natural. When he gets to know you, he should stop being shy with you as he accepts you as his "flock".

Having said that, if there's any chance that you won't accept this bird if he continues to be more reticent and shy than you'd like, then pick the bird you think will be a better fit with your family.

Personally, I take it as it comes and accept whatever personality a pet turns out to have.

Good luck with your decision, and welcome to the forum.

Don't let the 100 bucks be the decision maker! Remember, either will go thru a nippy stage, and this can easily lead tho unwanted patterns- unwittingly taught by you thru misunderstood reactions! We have two, not in any way living together, Bongo is ruler of his domain, loves the taste of blood. JoJo? Quiet, sweet, never drew my blood, nippy? At times! We are working with Bongo, but it would have been much easier to have not trained him this way. Hmm, bit digression!
Gcc by nature, cuddle. Go with your gut, not wallet!

It's a pet shop .they hand feed in the facility. You can buy the baby early and visit through the whole process before you take home. I think I'm going to go with the shy one because it's older and if I dont get it who will? I have a lot of love and patience I am confident I can form a bond with it and make it at least less skittish around other ppl. The calm one will be snapped up no problem.
