"Quinn C. Pickle" Dusky Conure born 12/14/14 home 3/18/15
Hello, I am very excited to be entering into the world of becoming a bird momma. I currently work in animal welfare and have kept many different species of animals, but for whatever reason, I have always been a bit wary of birds. I have recently had a few different interactions with birds that has made me decide to take the leap and learn as much as I can about keeping a pet bird. I have decided on a hand raised baby Dusky Conure. S/he won't be able to come home for a few more weeks but I'm very excited. I am very glad to have come across this forum and have been reading as much as I can in order to prepare. Our family currently consists of my husband, myself, 2 human teenagers, a 12y/o boston terrier, a 4y/o pit bull, a rabbit, a cat, 2 snakes, a bearded dragon, a desert tortoise and a betta fish. This new baby bird will complete our menagerie!

Welcome to the forum, and to the world of birds. It is quite exciting stuff! You have quite the menagerie of animals. I do as well. I currently have 4 parrots, 1 finch,2 chihuahua's, 2 horses, and a duck. They are so much fun! Be sure to post pictures when you bring your new baby home. Congrats!

Congrats on your new family member.....sounds like you've got an interesting zoo already

You do realize that your family's going to be doing a lot more hand washing, don't you, especially after handling your herps & reps and/or splashing around with the betta, before interacting with/handling dusky ! ! !

Good luck.....

Having kept reptiles for the past 25 years and raising my kids around them we have all perfected the art of hand washing. ;)

Congrats! I bet he/she will be so cute! And you sure do have a zoo! I do too! :p I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 parrots, 1 betta fish, 1 rabbit, and 15 quail! I love having lots of animals to care for! To me its more the merrier! Although we may be full at this time! Have fun with your conure! Conures are great birds, a bit loud but still amazing and cuddly! :D

Welcome, in my days, I raised and sold over 300 bearded dragons! Out of that now, I think/hope! Down to three now, two are sandfire.

Sounds like you have quite the collection! I have about 40-50 snakes! And a tortoise (sulcata) and turtle (reeves) as well!!! I'm also going to be a first time bird owner soon!

Welcome!

Soon to be Mac owner and it sounds like most of the forum has a zoo. I have 2 dogs, 5 cats, 2 bearded dragons, a 75 gal cichlid set up and about 50 dubia roaches. I will eventual get another ferret, as I used to own 3 but they gradually passed away due to old age. Welcome to the forum, and I can't wait to see pics of your new bird and s/he set up.

welcome to my new baby lovebird. She (he) is 11 days old. I have been reading all posts, & on the way to the pet store for supplies! Any advice about separating from parents to a brooder?

My duck is pretty funny Jamjar. He makes everyone laugh. Especially when they see him in his diapers. I can't stand for him to be in the cold at night, so he comes in at night with his special diaper. Lol! He actually thinks he is a chihuahua. When they bark at the fence at people he runs with them and quacks while they bark. He is funny!!
