Loki the Sunday Conure
Hello everyone! My name is Emily. I have been a budgie owner before, but right now I own a psycho little conure name Loki. He is almost a year old, and they told me when I bought him as a baby that he is a Sun/Jenday mix.

Here is the story of how I ended up with him, in case you find it interesting:

Two of my friends brought me to a local pet store to try to convince me to buy a hedgehog. Hedgehogs are cute, but I wasn't really interested. Well, the hedgehogs were kept up high out of reach with an "ask for help handling" sign, and while we waited for an available store associate, I wandered over to the birds.

There were some large parrots in large cages and flocks of budgies and finches in their respective cages. Then there were the small-midsize birds in a topless glass habitat: green cheeks, lovebirds, cockatiels, that sort. I stuck my hand down into the glass in front of a perch where about 5 birds sat all squished up next to each other in a cuddly fashion. They all scattered

All but one. The only sun conure in the store stepped right up onto my hand as if he already owned me. It was too irresistible.

I texted my husband, who at the time was my boyfriend, but was about to propose to me in a few weeks. (He thought he was sneaky, but I knew when it was coming. Heehee.)

- "So, what would you think if I bought a bird?" *Said bird begins chewing on my phone.*

- "I've never really been much of a bird person." (It doesn't get much more "no" than that.)

- "Well, actually, I found one. A good one." *Bird climbs up onto my shoulder.*

- "I mean, it's up to you."

- "It could live for as many as 30 years."

- "30 years?!! They live that long?!!"

- "Yeah, they can. They're really playful and friendly." *Bird burrows into my hair and starts chewing on my ear.*

- "What kind is it?"

- "A sun conure. The kind I've always wanted for as long as always." *Bird bites my friend.*

- "Well, if you've always wanted one...."

My two friends who were with me, enablers as they were, pitched in a bit of money to help me out, and I bought Loki.

My husband, brave and noble Griffindor that he is, proposed to me regardless (not to mention, I had recently acquired a horse as well). And now Loki and hubby are inseparable best buds. *Sigh of relief.*

Loki currently enjoys being the spoiled baby of the house, but this Fall he will have to make way for a human brother or sister. :21:

Right now Loki is wrestling a plastic bottle cap with a toilet paper tube on his head.

I don't personally know anybody else with birds bigger than budgies, so I'm excited to join the community and learn stuff (like whether my bird is sort of normal or crazy, haha).
