Yellow crowned Amazon
I acquired a 13 year old yellow crowned Amazon this week. He is my first "big bird" after previously owning a Quaker. At this point the family members are all trying to acclimate themselves to him, and he seems to be receptive to all of us. I am concerned that he just sits on top of his cage all day, leaving briefly to go down inside it to eat or drink. (I do have toys inside his cage.) I assume that with time I will be able to transfer him to a play area during the day. I would appreciate any ideas about how to go about this process!

Welcome! He's probably adjusting. Both my birds are rescues and they both took quite a bit of time to settle. The GCC took months to play and my CAG has only been here 2 months and is just now starting to play a bit, tear paper and investigate (tear up flip flops is a favorite pastime). I'm sure with routine and patience he will be just fine!

Welcome to the forum. Loads of great information in the amazon section. I'd start a thread there and I'm sure several of our great members will respond.
