Hi everyone! Just purchased my 2nd bird ever - my first was a green cheek that I had 5 yrs ago or so (she was killed in a household accident). Anyway, yesterday I bought a 2 yr old blue-crown off CL for $300, which includes a huge cage. I guess I should've researched the blue crown's a little, cuz this guy is big and loud! However, I have already made some progress and he has been letting me pet his beak a little tonight (and even near his eye!) , but he also drew his first blood tonight too. Oh well, all part of the process. I have been reading stuff on the web today about the screeching and am just looking for some ideas on how to tone it down a bit (if possible). Should I just ignore him, walk away, or leave the room when he screams, or should I try to soothe him? Also, I thought about covering his cage with a sheet when he screams, then uncovering when he stops. Do any of these ideas seem OK. Any other ideas? I know this move is brand new for him and I am not expecting miracles and am prepared to spend a lot of time with him. He definitely seems to like my wife more than me, but I assume that's because he was raised by a woman. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Happy to have found this forum!!
