Hello Abby, Welcome to the forum! We'd love to see photos of your pretty flock and hear about them.
What kind of help do you need? Can you tell us a little more about your frightened birds and describe the situation? Are they new birds? What seems to be frightening them?
Welcome! My mom has a handfed Princess of Wales. Patches is a character. He loves to run around and play "soccer" with foot toys. He's a good talker too. Although he's hand raised, like most "parakeet" species he does not like to be touched.
i went too have a look at a cage, out door, i have love birds from the same person, a year later they are still scared of me, ok so, long story, i went to see a female kakariki ad ended up with the crimson rosella ad the princess, both in the same size cage for a budgie, no clean water at lest 3 to 5 cm off poop in the cage, rosella tearing out his feathers and the princess is terrified, she has not eaten since i got them yesterday, worst of all the person has at least another 50 birds like this , would love to take them all but i have no place, my husband took them because he could't leave them there, now i have two birds that are terrified please help, xxx
we have a cage speically built for them got toys and branches and fresh fruit, the rosella is coming on but it's the princess that is getting to me, i have put the stereo in for them but she just stays i the corner or throws her head in circles, she is so scared it's unreal, poor little girl, i hate seeing this but i promise i will do my best to help them both, just need ideas to get them out o there shell, xxx
Sing to them, try giving millet, make sure they get enough sleep, and keep them in a generally quiet area at least for a little while after you get them.
Good luck! Thank you for rescuing those birds.
it's not the first birds i got from the same person , my husband i and decided if possible to try and get as many as possible out of there, but she sells only, and i don't have much cash xxx the lovebirds came from there as well a year later and they are still scared, but i can feed them and clean them now with out total panic, they have only just started coming to the front of the cage and even had 4 babies, the person breeds birds, but tried for a year and a half with this couple and nothing with me six months when they had babies, i am not bothered if they breed or not it is just for pleasure, but i have good homes for all my babies if they have any xxxx
i have just managed to change all the food and water for everybody with out any panic fromt the princess and she is singing now, so totally chuffed, you will inderstand why if you read the other posts xxxx
i have thought about it, all the time; but it's not the same if they have food they don't touch them, and they are not allowed to come un anounced so she will just throw food in,
