Rowdy -Blue and Gold Macaw (I miss him :''''(, ?-10/18/15)
Luna- cockatiel (deceased:'()
Hi everyone. Okay so my name is sydney and i just got my first macaw from my friend who couldn't keep him anymore. His name is Rowdy, he's 24 and hes a sweetheart. As of 7/28/15 this is my 3rd day of having him. I know I'm probably going to get lots of head shaking and disappointed looks but I had one bird before him, her name was Luna and she was a cockatiel. Yes, i know macaws arent for first time bird owners but believe me when I tell you I did my research before getting this bird. I have half a notebook full of info and I honestly think I will be able to take care of him. I'm looking for a "bird buddy", basically just someone who also has a macaw that I can talk to and who can talk to me, we can help eachother out if there's a problem with our bird(s), we can ask one another tips and tricks, and we can just be like bird friends stuff like that so pm me if you're interested.

There's nothing wrong with having a mac as your first bird or first "big" bird. If you've done your homework they can make wonderful first birds.

Welcome to you both!

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I agree with Karen.

Macaws aren't really all that difficult to care for, as long as (1) you are not afraid of them, and (2) actually pay attention to them.

A macaw is just an overgrown conure... :D they're fun birds, but extremely attention oriented.

1 B&G Macaw - Frankie
Welcome to the group! And don't worry about a macaw being your first "big" bird. I also had cockatiels before getting my B&G macaw and as long as you do some research and make sure you don't allow yourself to be intimidated by your new family member, things will be fine.

I lived with cockatiels when I was a teenager, but they were more my mom's birds. My Mac is technically my first bird. Just don't be afraid of him and give him plenty of attention and love..you should be fine! [emoji4]
