Hello everyone! I do not have a bird yet, but I am looking into getting an Indian Ringneck to love and spoil. On that note, does anyone know of any reputable breeders in California? I'm having trouble finding current websites/information through Google.

Thanks! :)

Hi, welcome :). I'm from CA too, but it is such a large state that we'd need to know what part of CA you're talking about, unless you don't mind paying for shipping, then it wouldn't matter what state it was from ;). Why not try looking at birdbreeders.com if you haven't already.

Hello! I am from Southern California and although I would prefer to look locally, I am willing to pay for shipping if need be.

I have looked on birdbreeders.com, but it looks like a lot of the breeders around my area don't have Indian Ringnecks currently or are selling breeding pairs. I'll look more thoroughly/deeper into the site though. :D

Welcome! As a thought, think of your future baby as a spouse! The bond is really at that level! But in their world there is no divorce!

Hello and Welcome! I can't help with a breeder in your area but good luck with your search.

Another SoCal local :). Although SoCal is still very large lol... if you want a baby, and don't mind driving a ways depending on where you are, Omar's Exotic Birds regularly has IRNs. In fact, on more than one occasion, I have seen some rare color mutations there. OMAR'S Exotic Birds :: Babies in Our Stores I think they keep their website pretty up to date. This shows some IRN babies currently available and at which one of their stores it's at.

I've bought from their stores before, and Omar breeds a lot of his own (not sure about IRN) but I am very impressed with how they do things from weaning to selling.

Hi there. IRNs are seasonal breeders, so most reputable breeders don't have babies available right now. Try finding a breeder who has a good solid philosophy of breeding and rearing, and get on their waiting list for this spring when babies are available. IRNs are a very unique and challenging species and it doesn't hurt to take a few extra months setting up for just the right baby to spend the next 30 years with :)

Julie...miss it normal to pay $50 for a budgie in SoCal? I'm just perusing the site you listed and I've never seen a price that high. Are they tame budgies? I must visit one of these store. Must, must must. I want to see aaaaaaallllllll the birdies!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome from another SoCal parrot lover!

Another great source of information is to join a local bird-club, or aviculturist group. Many of the larger cities or suburbs here have fellow enthusiasts who may be of great help in locating your ideal bird!

Honestly I've actually never seen a regular budgie in Omar's. The price makes me think they're hand fed non-English? Mink my English was bred by Omar, and I believe mostly raised by her parents, then hand fed in the store the last few weeks? I was so impressed with the care they took to wean her and not push her out the door right away. In fact quite the opposite. She is tame, and was weaned onto veggies too, so that was nice. She was $109.

Ariel went to the one in Brea when she was out here, ask her about it! I do think they're one of the exceptional bird stores. The store in Brea is a tiny one though compared to the other Omar's stores.

I have spent so many hours in the Brea store playing with the babies when I was in SoCal! They are very well socialized before leaving the store on top of their weaning practices.

Last time I was at Omar's they had IRN' that were weaning. I fell in love with their caique babies though.... :09:

I love caiques and want one badly! But they are illegal here in Hawaii and it will be a long while before there is an opening for a new species in my flock.

Hawaii has a delicate Eco system and we a,ready have many invasive species wreaking havoc. Certain highly aggressive parrot species who are likely to pose a threat to the environment are illegal to bring in, Such as IRNs, Quakers, and caiques. If no one started breeding them before the ban took effect, there are none in the state. I do not believe a single caique exists here.

I know of only one species Quakers that are banned here. But they still breed the regardless (Private breeders).
