Hi I just bought a 10 months old eclectus from an owner who had him for 6 months. I have him for like almost a month now. Im just wondering how do I let the bird get bonded to me? Hes still shy n wouldn't step up sometimes after a month but he already knows how to do the turn around target trick (however he doesn like to ste up on my hand). Im not rushing it but is there any way I can play with the bird to develop better relationship? hes also scared of going on a table (or on the ground) so I cant really play the ring game with him. How do you guys shower ur eclectus and how often? Also how many nuts can eclectus eat a day?

I had my male ekkie about 5 months before the "bond" really happened. He would step up for me and sometimes let me pet his beak but never his head. I could usually touch his toes and sometimes his tail or wings but not his head. In the last two weeks or so he has let me pet his head, lift his wings, touch his belly, etc. I just kept trying it. Now he comes to the door of the cage when I open it and he wants to step up.

Please take your time. I didn't try this every day. Sometimes it would a couple of weeks before I went back to try things with him. It just takes time. Mine didn't like to step up at first either. He likes to do so now and expects me to ask him to step up.

It will happen but you need to be patient. Three weeks ago I couldn't have told you that...now I can.
