I've got a 1 year old Green Cheek!
Hello everyone. I have a young green cheek conure, and am dying to adopt/rescue a second bird, but my parents are not so convinced. They worry that a second bird would not be benificial, and that two birds means double the work and training, like cleaning and having the birds out of the cage.
I know that it means more work, but I am ready to take ahold of the reigns and do that. As of now, I am in contact with a rescue organization with a Blue-Crowned Conure, potentially two. After researching, this type of bird sound like a great fit because of its size and "compatibility" with my green cheek. Now I know very well how much individuals can differ in personality, I'm just making a general statement.
I would appreciate advice for my situation. Thanks so much.

It depends. If the new bird is housed in the same cage as your GCC (meaning that the two get along and share the cage), then it may not even be double the work. I had a cockatiel in a flight cage and eventually got another, who was also housed in the same cage. Besides double the food being taken up, I didn't find that I had to supply double the toys and double the space and double the cleaning and etc. And it's not like I was giving them both one on one time with me outside of the cage, I handled both of them at the same time. It was definitely less than double for me.

Of course, you don't know if the two will get along. If you have to house them separately, then it really is double the work!

A blue crown conure is too big for a GCC. You will need another cage, more toys, etc. It really would be more than double the work, and your parents are right.

If you are prepared for it and can get your parents on board, I'd say go ahead.
