My name's Chris, and I currently have one male budgie (Finn) and one male linnie (Neville). They live in separate cages. I have a Yellow-Sided GCC coming in about 2 months.

My problem right now is that even though Neville and Finn do like each other, Finn is bullying Neville. Most times they run around together and imitate each other, but Finn also does things like peck at his body, step on him/land on him, and my biggest issue, plucking neville's head feathers out. THe strange thing is, Finn always looks and sounds happy while doing all this.

Currently I supervise playtime, but sometimes, Finn is just too fast for Neville or me to stop. Is this a hormonal thing, Or is it just how budgies are? Will Neville's head feathers regrow normal?

Hi Welcome Chris :).

Budgies and Linnies, although they may be sort of similar looking at first glance, they are very different species. Budgies as a general rule are a more aggressive species, and the two are not species that are normally expected to get along. I wouldn't let them out together if it is to the point of poor Neville getting his feathers plucked out. You say they get along, but you're the only one who has observed them and truly knows what it's like between the two. I would really supervise closely, and don't just "assume" they get along. Finn may be showing aggression to his more mild mannered Linnie 'friend'.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going give them separate cage out time. So, what you're saying is, the biggest reason for Finn's behaviour is simply because budgies are more aggressive?

I hate to say simply "budgies are more aggressive" and that's what the problem is, but from what you are saying, it does sounds like aggression in this case. Pulling feathers, landing on him, etc. I'm sure Neville doesn't think of Finn as a 'friend' lol. Many of us have birds who don't get along. It's a pain to have to separate them, but we do what we have to ;).
