None yet, but I am learning everything I can, so one day, I can own a Macaw.
Hello, to everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Laura. I don't have a bird yet, but hope one day to have one. I have been ghosting the forum for a couple of years now, trying to learn all I can, before I make the plunge. I keep trying to reason to myself, that I can handle all things with a bird, as well as take care of my special needs grandson, my husband and I are raising. Until I am certain of this, I will just continue to read and learn as much as I can from all the wonderful members from around the world that are here!

Hello Welcome. I think its a great idea to get a parrot. Maybe not a macaw but it will surely bring joy and happiness to the family. And your grandson would also love it i am sure :)

Thank you so much everyone! My husband said ,the same thing, about my getting a macaw. LOL! I promise, I am looking at all birds, and will not get one until I am sure, I can handle them. Starting with the new school year, I will be volunteering at Uncle Sandy's Macaw Park, here in Pensacola. The park, has many different types of birds, and survives on donations and volunteers. They also have adoptions, but only to qualified persons. I figured between being here on the forum, and volunteering, I should get a ton of information and hands on experience.

LOVED reading that you'll be doing volunteer work there, Laura! Yes, that is absolutely a fantastic way to learn how to handle and deal with all kinds of different birds.

I would never discourage you from a big mac, if that is where your heart is. ;) I was initially afraid of those can openers attached to their faces, too. Niko (my B&G) taught me SO much. :D

True, Macs have large beaks, but I am more afraid of the small beaks myself! When I am ready, I know, I will be adopting an older bird. And, it will come with baggage, as we all do. I guess, that is why, I am researching this so much. I can't wait to start at Uncle Sandys! Thank all of you for being so nice, and welcoming. I tried FB, but it is a madhouse on their pages. Yikes!
