Thought I'd introduce myself.
I am Megan from the UK. I am a new owner to a pair of gorgeous lovebirds called kiki and ace :green::green1:
These are the first birds I've kept but I work in an owl sanctuary looking after rescued birds of prey which is the most amazing job ever. We also have a rescued yellow crested cockatoo in the sanctuary called Ozzy who s three years old, and came to us in a very sorry state. He can't fly, and he was fed on a diet of bread and butter previously. He was severely malnourished, missing a large percentage of his feathers and was terrified of men, but he has come on leaps and bounds and is the sweetest bird ever. He is finally eating proper food and loves his fruit and veggies now. He has put on weight and is looking a lot better.

Thank you guys. We have all kinds of birds of prey in the sanctuary including European eagle owls, Bengal eagle owls, great greys, great horned, tawny, spotted eagles, burrowing owls, little owls, screech owl, bookook owls, kestrels, Harris hawks, red tails, buzzards, tawny eagles and stepped eagles. I am actually in the process of training a buzzard at the moment, so she is my baby in work. She comes around with me everywhere. Her aviary is close to the gate as well so every morning when I come in she flies to the front of her aviary and calls me.
We also take in injured wild birds that we release if possible. We've recently just released a kestrel who came in with an injured wing. And we've also got a pair of pigeons in our hospital at the moment. So yeah, we get all sorts. :D

Kiki and Ace are beautiful. Lovebirds have such cute faces. :)

Training a buzzard? I love that! If you can ever get pics of your work birds too, that would be fantastic!

I'll definitely have to have a look at that book, thanks for the recommendation. I also do have a photo of one of the birds, one of the eagles as well who is called she's mine. I have no idea who named her. :20:

Sorry for another post but I've found some more pictures including some of Ozzy the poor cockatoo who is looking a million times better in these photos than when he came in believe it or not.

The sanctuary is in ebbw vale, in south Wales. There are others around, the one in Barry is awful apparently but I have never been, and there is a large one in newest, Gloucester shire which is decent but they charge quite a bit to get in, we are completely not for profit so don't charge entry.

Thanks for the pics! So Buzzard is a hawk lol! He's a baby, right? Wow the bird in the first pic looks huge. Nice to see Ozzy too, glad he is doing so much better than when he came in.

Ah sorry, yeah common buzzards are only in Europe and Asia. It's part of the buteo family which include birds such as the red tail hawk. She is actually an adult bird, but likely a young adult. She's a bit scruffy looking in that picture bless her.
The big bird is indeed a big bird. It's a steppes eagle, and she is reeeeaaallly heavy as well. I couldn't hold her up for long. She doesn't actually come out that often so she's not a tame bird either but she's been having treatment on an injured wing.

Ozzy is doing fab, he has been eating well too. When he first came to us he would not eat anything but bread. I managed to get him to eat the black and white striped seeds (I forgot what they were called) out of my hand and that was all he would eat for a while, then he started taking them from his dish, then he started eating other seeds, and now he's taking fruit. So baby steps but he's getting there slowly. Need to get him to eat vegetables now. He's put on loads of weight too, but he is still very skinny bless him. He loves having cuddles now, and he sits there grooming my hair or tucks himself up in the crook of my arm. The other day he was even grooming my eyelashes. What a cutey.
