Like to say thank you first off for the info I have been able to get here!
Three days ago Sadie came to her new home with me, 6yrs in the making but who's counting. She was a friends bird who always liked me and I always offered to take her if anything came up.
It happened and I couldn't be happier!
I have her (not 100% sure[emoji6]) she is 10 and she seems to be much happier so say some of our other friends.
I have much to learn still and hope for a life long companion.
A picture from her first day home.

I would also like to apologize to admin for the two different logins tapatalk on two different devises, I haven't been able to merge.
Special thanks to birdman666 for his behavioral stickie!

Regards Joel and Sadie

Welcome an be welcomed! Is your Sadie clipped? I see her out in the open; we have had far too many incidents of birds taking off for different pastures lately. Be advised that even a clipped bird may get enough lift to fly if wind conditions are ideal for that.
Had it happen to me, many many years ago. thought he was clipped enough, something scared him and poof, just like that, my little guy was gone.

Sadie looks beautiful, the former owner seems to have taken good care of her. Tell us more about her - we love Macaw stories ( and pics).

We thank you for the warm welcome!
So very happy indeed and the transition has been great so far.
She was taken good care of feed and habitat wise and am planning the same for "her" (still to be verified) she is not a screamer thankfully and she has yet to bite though a few times I thought for sure it was bound to happen in the excitement and bonding times.
Caution about the flying off is well taken and her wing is clipped. Prior owner said she has only flew a few times and hasn't tried for some time as her prior attempts led to crashes. I could not resist nor deny her out request on her first day home.
I have many questions and will try to have a small list for this weekend but trying to glean all I can from the many posts and stories here as not to ask about things that are spelled out in detail elsewhere.
I first met Sadie when she was being hand raised then again 7 years ago I would see and play with her a few times a month for a afternoon or so. She has no band which I would like to remedy and I have no idea why not other than a private breeder who has since passed.
Her words seem to be few so far Hello, ouch, is it good, love, please, thank you and what do you want[emoji7] working on my first teaching "trees are cool"
More tomorrow
Joel

So amazed each day with the way things are going, I knew she was precious but I wasn't prepared for it all the time[emoji7]
She has taken to talking over my wife some but they are making each other comfortable. Sadie is a clean bird is one I get from my wife and I am grateful for that as well. And Sadie has learned from my wife the Judge Judy "perfect"
A couple questions. As a tree climber I have old retired natural fiber rope manila and some 5/8 three strand that has polyester in it. I couldn't find a difinitive answer on its safety with birds. Would I be safe to make toys from this? The small amount of manila won't last long and I want to be prepared.
Obtained a larger cage and started prepping it for bead blasting. My question is what should I repaint with?
I had planed on powder coating which was it's original finish however it won't fit in my friends oven so I am looking for other safe alternatives.
Another question as I plan her outdoor gym will I have to screen this enclosure ie worry about mosquitos and the like?
Thanks Joel
