Hi, I'm Rachelyn and I'm a bit new to this forum. I will soon be picking up two young parakeets and I was wondering if you guys are able to figure out what gender they are or at least a hunch on what they could be.

I'm super excited to get them, so if you guys had any advice or tips on budgies it would be very helpful. Here are the two babies below. :):greenyellow:

If you don't mind removing eggs when they lay them, get a female. If you get a male and female they might make babies. I don't know alot about them but I'd assume that's what would happen! Hehehe!! Also sometimes same gender birds can be territorial, my brother had 2 love birds and he thought he was getting a male and female , well he got two males and one unfortunately killed the other. Hope I was some help !!

Welcome to the forums, Rachelyn! I have not lived with parakeets, so cannot help with their sexing. Hopefully others familiar will join your thread!!

Hi and welcome to the forum your two baby budgies are Adorable. I dont know much about sexing baby budgies at that age and from what I gather its pretty difficult to acurately tell while they are babies but later the male will have a blueish tinge to his cere and the female will be brownish...even if they are male and female if you dont provide them with a nest they wont have babies... I baby sit a male and female from time to time they have been together since they were little and never had babies in fact the hen has never even laid an egg and they are pretty old now...about 10 ish years old I think. Best of Luck with your new babies they are Adorable :) Maybe some of the budgie people might be able to come on and give you an educated guess as to the gender and some tips regarding looking after a budgie .

OMG they are TOO CUTE!!! Congrats. Our little Budgies are so sweet very gentle. I know not all are like that we got lucky I guess.

WAY too young to sex right now. Wait a few months and it will be easy to tell.

Hi Rachelyn, welcome to the forum :). Snowflake is right, they are still too young to accurately tell gender. By the time they are ready to go home, it will be clearer.

Immature males will have a solid color pink or lavender cere. Immature females will have a 'chalky' whitish very light blue cere (not to be confused with the royal blue cere of adult males in most color mutations).

Thanks Mary for the link ;) you're so kind!
