Babe- Yellow Fronted Amazon
Good afternoon. I'm new to the forum. Just recently added a yellow fronted amazon to our family. (tgree days ago to be exact) We are her third or fourth home, but hopefully her last! Its been over 15 years since we had birds, so I have quite a few questions. Living on an island in the Caribbean has alot of disadvantages. There are no pet stores here, nor book stores. So we rely on the internet for alot. Fortunately, we do have a vet on island tgat is familiar with birds.

32 years!
I've aged. He hasn't.
Life expectancy supposedly 30-35... but he looks the same as when he was 1.
There are great threads here on topics that will be very enjoyable for you, I'm confident.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new addition to the family whats her name ? There are lots of Amazon paronts here including myself though my guy being a White Fronted Amazon is way smaller than your lady. Here is a link that will prove very helpful to you. Read it over a couple of times even read it to your Amazon as the sound of your voice reading to her will help her settle in and reading this thread over and over will help engrave Amazon behaviour in your mind and be a major help to you as you bond with your parrot. I hope you will be able to share some pics with us soon so we can see your new girl. Do you know why she has had so many homes...if she has a few behavioural problems you have come to the right place. Enjoy the forum and heres the thread that is so important for you not just to read through but also to study

Welcome to the Parrot Forums! And, just as wonderful, Welcome to the Wonderful World of Amazons.

As stated above, please read and re-read the Thread regarding Amazon Body Language. It is very important to know the Language of your Amazon, as they expect you to know what they are saying. So, you 'need' to learn Amazon. Also as stated above, Reading aloud too your Amazon is a great way to develop and grow a relationship. Even if you are doing nothing more then sitting next too their cage.

A really good knowledge point is: Its NEVER the fault of the Parrot! IT IS ALWAYS the fault of the Human! When you start from this position, you more quickly determine what YOU are doing Wrong and can fix it faster!

Take any timeline that you may have read or hear and dump it!

Rehomed Amazons, will hold back to see if you are for real or just another passing Human. However, if you learn their language and follow the knowledge point, they will open-up to you and I assure you that Love from a Rehomed Amazon is Deep and Forever!

Thank-you, for bring an Rehomed Amazon to your forever HOME!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums! Hope you become the "forever home" to your Amazon!

You live in a beautiful part of the world! Had the opportunity to live in San Juan for a year and travel extensively to the USVI and the BVI.

Welcome! Glad you have a new family member, what's his/her name? And I hear you about the islands. I worked a contact in San Juan PR, flew to San Juan every Monday and came home every Thursday. I would make lists of thing I needed to bring back to San Juan and even picked up things my client would ask for that they couldn't readily get. But PR is a bigger island. I use Amazon a lot for my bird needs. I know there are some other parrot sites too that others on the forum use too that have great items.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to welcome me! Her name is "Babe". As far as I know, she has been rehomed several times due to previous owners leaving island. Which is how I got her. Yesterday we had some major issues with biting. She took a nasty chunk out of my lip, then later bit me in the neck. Id like to post the story of how it happened, so I can get some insight, but not sure this is the correct forum, after all, its for welcoming new members.

To get maximum attention, you might open a new thread in the AMAZON area, or maybe even Behavioral. I do know there are MANY here with Amazon expertise!!!!
Good for you, for wanting to learn and work on it!!!

Thank you! She has been rehomed several times, mainly due to previous owners leaving the island. However, she definitely bites. Yesterday she bite me in the face and the neck....I actually posted the story on the amazon forum.
