Green Cheek Conure (Pineapple)
Hello all. New to the forum so I figured I would say hi.

Currently I only own one bird - a pineapple green cheek conure - but I am planning on getting more. I have hand fed and raised a few wild birds and successfully released them once they had learned to forage and feed themselves - which has now got me interested in breeding and hand raising parrots.

Looking forward to connecting with other parrot owners here on the forum (I will probably have a lot of questions as I explore new parrot breeds).

Welcome and be welcomed. Different types of parrots are species, not breeds, like blue and gold macaws and scarlet macaws. 2 different species. I suppose those who want to raise parrot babies should properly be called ' species-ers, lol. Anyways, raise parrots for the love for a given species, not for profit.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy it here it certainly is the right place to learn all about parrots. I love your profile pic of your baby. You seem to have a whole lot of experience with wild birds Im just curious as to why you wany to switch to parrots is it just for the experience or are you bitten by the parrot bug. I imagine if you were interested you could also be an invaluable help to a Wild bird rescue if you knew of one near you and were interested in helping them. With your experience in this area you would be a real help if you had a mind to continnue down the road of rescueing and releasing wild birds. I think what you did was awesome as there are not many people who can successfully do this. Well done on your accomplishments so far.

His/her name is Glaw - I will be taking Glaw to a vet on Tuesday to get a DNA test so I can know for sure if it is a he or she.

Thanks! :)

I have actually looked into helping at either a wild bird rescue or a parrot rescue/adoption center. Problem is they are all really far from where I live and since I own my own business (I am a commercial Beekeeper) I don't have enough time to drive several hours both ways to a rescue center. For now I will have to settle for a few parrots at home.

The parrot bug literally bit me in the form of a really mean budgie I owned when I was little. Despite the bird's attitude, my childhood tragedy occurred when he flew out an open door and was never recaptured.
