New to owning a bird

Hello everyone,

My husband and I are thinking of getting a Conure.

We want to be ready as possible.

We were wondering if this cage would be sufficent?

Do you have a specific conure species in mind?

The space in a flight cage like the one in the link is very nice but the wire gauge in a flight cage isn't sturdy enough for most conures, they have powerful beaks and many are avid chewers. You and your future companion would probably be happier with a cage similar to this one. There are a variety of different styles available with or without play tops, several sizes and prices to choose from. Food doors that open out and a large front door are nice features that make cleaning and access more convenient. The bar spacing should be 1/2" to
5/8" or even 3/4" for the larger conures.

Just to add to Allee. Allee is right about the wire gauge. My quakers can rip those welds apart with their beaks. It is very dangerous because once the welds are broken they can bend the bars inward and hurt themselves. The spacing is also important because if it is too large they can get their heads caught. If you are on a tight budget you may be able to find a clean, used cage for sale. Check to make sure there is no rust, and clean and sanitize thoroughly.

If you are looking at a GCC, that cage is good! We had it for two years and sold it for what we paid! For sure, the wire is very light!
