I am curious about when you shower with your bird wether you can put soap or shampoo on yourself or not. Will it affect the bird?
Many thanks,
Aaliyah

Certainly. Just be sure none of it gets on your bird.

I always do with Zoe. She has a wall perch. I do my shower stuff and then I bathe her. To keep it fun for her I usually have the music blasting.

Shoulders are for trusted parrots. They gotta earn that spot. Otherwise you end up with holes in your ears and missing hair among other things.

Give it time. You and the bird will figure out your own set of rules.

Personally, I believe that dominance thing to be something of a myth. As JBassset just mentioned, it's really a matter of trust. From the position of your shoulder, a bird can do a lot of damage. Your face. Your eyes. So it's important that any bird allowed there has earned the privilege and exhibits no bite issues.

So well stated as part of the above Posts!!!

Only thing I would add is that we all serious underestimate the very sensitive, life threatening 'things' in our neck that could kill or serious injure us should a medium /larger Parrot bite there.

As so very well stated: "They gotta earn that spot."

It was just a couple of months ago that our rehomed DYH Amazon gained shoulder access after near 30 months with us!

One thing you might not expect - I was reading some of the stories on Sally Blanchards website last night, one one concerned a rehomed macaw that was adapting to life with the new family. The dad of the family followed the advice to shower with the bird, which went well until it slipped, slid down his body, and grabbed onto the only thing it could grab to keep from hitting the floor. Dad made sure to have a perch in the shower after that.

I wouldn't use soap or shampoo with the bird sitting on my shoulder personally. My birds use a shower perch.

Wet the birdy down, soap him up, and use him as a shower scrubby. Rubber ducky, you're the one... ;)

Nah, I perch the Nacho birdy on the shower curtain rod while I wash myself as usual, then perch him on my finger and let him get a little bit of spray. Once he's semi soaked I perch him back up on the shower curtain rod, get out and towel myself off, then towel him off.

But I thought a million times about using the little fluff ball as a scrub buddy, hahah.

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
The Rb is such an... uhhhhh... INTENSE fellow...
He is so out-of-control and all-over-the-place. I wouldn't even TRY to keep him out of soaps and/OR off of my privates!
I can envision the Emergency Room experience... "Well, I was showering with my parrot, and..."

Oh, like you'd DARE to expose yourself to the Rb!
Come to think of it... neither would I!
