Its been a long time since I have been here. Thanks to administration for accepting my membership. Currently I am awaiting the arrival of a baby male English Budgie. I have named him Murphy even before he is with me. He is a violet spangled lacewing mutation. I have had other birds in my life but the English Budgies are my favorite. He is from a breeder who lives in New Jersey. This breeder pulls the babies on day 7 and puts them in an incubator for warmth and hand feeding. These birds then become imprinted on humans. Taming begins at an early age of 3 weeks. He is now fully weaned and stepping up however the part I do not like is he flight feather clipping.

I also have a Maine Coon female cat named Christine who just turned 14 in January. She, of course, gets closed in another room when a bird is getting out of cage time.

Hello and welcome!! That's great you found a breeder, I'm excited to see pictures of your new baby! I also have two cats, ragdolls, that are also put in their room when the birds are out. It's the safest way for everyone that way!

Welcome! Congrats on Murphy, I used to breed English budgies and I also love them! I currently have 7 that I bred and hand-raised myself, and I just adore them! I'm sure you'll have years of fun and live with Murphy. When do you bring him home?

Don't worry too much about the wings being clipped, sometimes it's better to have them clipped when a bird first arrives to it's new home for training and socialization purposes. He will have to rely upon you at first to get around, back to his cage, etc., and this will help you to earn his trust and bond with him. I always asked buyers of my babies if they wanted them clipped, but I typically recommended it for the first period home. His wings will grow back in a few months and as long as the breeder allowed him to fully fledge prior to clipping him, which I'm sure they did, he'll be able to fly with no issues soon!

Thanks everyone for your welcome wishes. I expect my baby EB to be here with me next week if the breeder is coming to Md. So far he "thinks" he might. If not I must get the bird shipped to me because I cannot drive that far any more. It has been my experience that flight feathers that have been clipped do not grow back for almost 1 year. EllenD thanks for your input and it must have been fun to raise all those budgies. Do you have some photos? I have a couple baby photos but I don't remember how to post photos. Will have to research that and will post in the budgie forum.
