I'm with Sailboat on this one; we know nothing about you, your lifestyle, your experience, or your intentions. While some members have had the tragedy of being forced to rehome, we mostly try to do our best to help people keep their birds. If you would like to use this forum as a tool to adopt, please tell us about yourself and what sort of life you envision for yourself and any parrot you adopt.

geez I didn't expect to post this for someone to comment and just say "here take my bird" lmao I clearly wanted to talk to an owner first about any birds that are up for adoption, I want the person who's giving me a precious life of theirs to know it'll be in good hands, my thoughts on to why I've been wanting a bird again and so on. I'm not looking for random birds either, I was just posting to come in contact with any that might be a good fit. Didn't think anyone would freak out

I don't think anyone has freaked out; we are simply asking for more info on you, your desire for a parrot, etc. this is an extremely close community and we like to get to know one another, particularly those who are looking to adopt.

I'm sorry I just didn't expect every person who looked at this to have a bird up for adoption

Avacook, maybe your username is scaring people. Are you an avian lover who likes to cook? Or do you like to cook avians? Remember the cookbook "How To Serve Mankind"?

I KID I KID I KID!

We get it, you are thinking of becoming a parrot and putting out feelers. Please don't go away. There are plenty of other parrot forums haunted by people who will be happy to sell you an unweaned baby or problem parrot or just not the right bird for you. Parrots live a long time, as long as people, and it's a tragic fact that many of them end up neglected or abused or insane. Google "macaw Betty 17 years in parakeet cage" for one such gut wrenching story. Then hang around, just lurk if you like, read the posts from new owners, from people asking for help, read the various threads on health, and you'll begin to get a clearer picture of what it means to live with a parrot. The time, money, and attention required are not trivial. If you decide to do it, you'll also find much good advice on making a good match.

There are people out there who "flip" parrots, dogs, cats, you name it but the more valuable the animal the more frequent the scam. They pose as loving owners, get custody of a pet from someone who is forced to part with a beloved pet and wants a good home for it, then turn around and sell it to the first buyer for a quick buck. It's extremely traumatic for an intelligent bird like a parrot, so we do tend to defend against this kind of thing. But hang out, you might learn some interesting stuff about parrots. Just don't serve them with red wine. I KID!

I've had parrots in the past including an amazon and a nanday I know how to care for parrots and I know the problems and the good that come with them, I don't just expect a bird to be an easy exchange and I know how much time & love they need, as I said in the post I had a bird that recently past away as to why I was looking for another

New here, I've had a yellow headed amazon and a nanday conure who recently passed away, joined looking for fellow bird lovers and maybe an adoptable bird! I've always had a passion for loving animals and taking care of them, birds have always been amazing creatures to me, probably my favorite animal! :) I love how misccevious and wild they can be, even though they can be a handful at the end of the day their like your child and you wouldn't trade them for the world, I just have tons of free time and I'be been looking for another family member for a while now, I'd love to give any birds a forever home ☺️ Too many birds nowadays are sent from home to home and never are really able to settle down and get traumatized from it, my nanday was totally unhandable when I received her, would try to bite all the time but I stayed patient with her and even taught her to step up, give me kisses, and she was soon following me throughout the house everywhere. I'd love to talk more about my passion for birds to anyone who's willing!
