2nd day with my eclectus

Hello Everyone!
I picked up my 2 eclectus yesterday. They're very sweet. They weren't eating from their dish yesterday unless I held it up to them. This morning I moved their favorite perch in front of the food dish and they've been eating well.

Iris has nibbled on every toy in the cage but Iggy has been staying on one side. He has climbed to the top and down a couple of times so I'll take that as a good sign. It's a little odd to walk up to the cage in the morning and not have them hanging on the door waiting to come out like my GCC did, but I'm sure they'll be clamouring to come out in no time. They've both stepped up and nibbled on my fingers in curiosity. I am amazed at how well both of them are already playing.

I've already gotten tons of good information from this site about settling them in and getting them used to me. Thank you all! I look forward to being a contributing member of this forum Hopefully I've figured out the picture thing and they're posted below.

Re: 2nd day with my eclectus

Welcome to you, Iggy, and Iris! Beautiful birds, and yes, the pics look great!

My experience with Eclectus is they can be shy, reserved, and more difficult to "read" than many species. Oh, they are alert and observant but are a bit more stealthy about showing emotions. Iggy and Iris will be in a honeymoon period for a while, so keeping them comfortable and allowing progression as they desire is best.

Re: 2nd day with my eclectus

I went to a pet store the other day and he had several different types of birds in the back that he boards. There was one talking up a storm like a human being, but I couldn't tell which one it was coming from. He said it was most likely the red female Eclectus. Then as we were leaving the room it said goodbye. I did not know they could talk so well.

My experience has been Eclectus can have superb and human-tonal speech quality, though their vocabularies may not be as extensive as Greys or Amazons. My male Sasquatch spoke like a little boy.
