Pan (White-faced pie cockatiel)
Hiya, new member here!

My cockatiel, Pan seems to be a little sick (I think a respiratory infection of a sort (maybe)). He's just as active and eats as normal but I did catch him breathing heavily for a little while. I've booked an appointment with an avian vet but the earliest I could book is in 2 days time. Mean while, is there anything I can do to make sure Pan doesn't get worse?

Thank you!

Hello my fellow owl friend but my rival day enemy.
Maybe take the cockatiel into the shower with you so the steam helps clear the passage a little?

keep him/her warm. Acting normal is what sick birds do.
by the time they act sick they are very sick and could be too late.

Welcome to the forums! By the time a bird displays obvious signs of illness it has been ill for a while. As creatures of prey, they are adept at appearing well and active.

Is Pan scheduled with an avian certified vet? Many practices have some buffer time for either emergencies or more urgent cases. Heavy breathing may be a sign of advanced illness.

I realize the appointment is for "tomorrow" and hope he is comfortable.

Yes agree with Scott, most AV's will accept urgent cases, if they know it's urgent?

Hiya everyone! Thank you all for your replies ☺~

I saw the avian vet today and fortunately he said there was nothing wrong and the heavy breathing might have been from something that stressed him out~

Interesting! As long as the vet is well qualified, that is good news. Any diagnostic work such as a blood panel, or did your bird present as completely normal?
