Double Yellow-headed Amazon
Hi guys, I look forward to interacting with you all and learning more about parrots.
I currently live with a Double Yellow-Headed Amazon named Esmeralda. I'm currently (19 yo) and my parrot has been around for about 10 of those years. My mother use to breed parrots, although she stopped, and Esmeralda was from one of the eggs that she raised. As I was younger I never handled Esmi, nor did my family to an extent.
For me it was out of fear at first, and my parents it was just they didn't focus on her. So now she is accustomed to her cage. Although for a while I've had a growing passion for parrots and Esmeralda. Which brought me out of my fears and started researching how to train and raise a parrot properly. I know it takes a lot of work and effort but I am willing. It saddens me to see such an amazing creature and how capable she is for so much more. Just to have that shut down with her in the cage.
So what I have been doing lately is taking her out getting to get her accustomed it and try building trust so I can get a decent relationship with Esmeralda first before trying to handle her too much. We have some bit of trust such as when i stick my fingers in her cage she lets me pet her at times, when she is in the mood for it. Although when she is out of the cage she moves the corner although, she only comes up to me for her favorite treats which are peanuts.
So I'm asking for some advice and tips and how should I continue about it.
Also, I look forward to speaking more with you guys on more threads and learn more about these amazing creatures.

hey in his post it shows a TOC at the beginning and I can't seem to find a link to it. Is there a way I can find the link? or should I just keep reading down further into the thread?
(BTW: This is my first time ever signing up in a forum so I'm entirely new to this stuff)
