welcome and be welcomed. As they say - "show me the Morty " ! At 3 yes old, he is likely in the middle of or slowly coming out of puberty. Use the search feature, search on puberty.

Hello eejay, a warm welcome to you and Morty! You are right to move at Morty's pace. Quakers are amazing, small birds with huge personalities and often huge attitudes. Quakers have a tendency to be a bit territorial when inside their cages. When working with a quaker you don't know well it helps to provide a perch on the outside of the cage near the door, quakers are curious creatures, it shouldn't take long for Morty to come out on his own. Sit close, talk or read to your new companion at a distance he's comfortable with. Cage maintenance is easier if done when the quaker is watching and advising from a safe distance away. A play stand or designated area with water and a snack comes in handy. This may sound odd but I think parrots appreciate it when you talk to them and explain what you are doing when you rearrange things in their area. My quakers say thank you and you're welcome, one of them tells me I am a good, good girl when I clean his room or give him new toys or perches. Don't expect too much too soon, with patience you will be rewarded for your efforts and research.

Welcome to you and Morty! I remember quakers being available here when I was trying to choose my 'parrot kind' (we're a small country with strict import laws = a small selection of parrots). I love their architectural habits!

thank you for the warm welcome. ive been around animals my whole life. and some smaller birds. i recently raised a crow that ended up flying back to his family. i see them often out and about. it awakened a need in myself for a bird companion.. lol if that makes any sense

Busted!!! I thought it might be better to let Morty disclose the darker side of the nature of quakers. :)
