New to "bigger" parrot ownership

I now have a young Hahn's macaw. I used to have a Pacific Parrotlet that lived until almost 15. Before that I had a budgie.
After 15 years of loving a "mighty big" little Pacific Parrotlet, my husband and I have adopted a "mighty bigger" Hahn's macaw. I have to say that he's definitely a different animal, for sure. We've bonded with him quickly since adopting him on Labor Day weekend. He's now about 5.5 months old. The avian vet said he's still considered a "baby", and I must admit he seems like a baby (clingy, baby-like vocalizations, a little clumsiness).

I feel that my husband and I treated our Pacific Parrotlet very very well. I was home with him most all day every day, but after losing him I was devastated. Since adopting our Hahn's macaw both hubby and I are super spoiling him. Perhaps we shouldn't, but we never had any kids.:gcc:

Thank you, Don. He definitely has a lot of personality, and a different one than my late Parrotlet.

Ooooo such a pretty bird! Yes still a little baby up until those teenager hormones hit! but that shouldn't be for a long time now

I think out of the macs a Hahns is probably what I would get but that wouldn't be for a long time

Congratulations!!! What a sweet picture. I myself am wanting to dive into the larger parrots (I've only owned budgies, cockatiels, conures) and my dream bird is a macaw.... someday!

There are so many macaws in rescues...when you are ready, your dream can come true!

Welcome to the forums, so glad you joined us! Deepest condolences for the loss of your parrotlet after fifteen happy years.

Congratulations on your new addition. I've heard wonderful things about the Hahn's macaws. Looking forward to more photos of your handsome guy.

Thank you, everyone! And thanks Allee for the condolences. It was really hard.

By the way, when does he officially graduate from baby to teen?

A warm welcome to you and your Hahn's! Please accept my condolences for the loss of your Pacific Parrotlet.

Your new macaw will be a worthy substitute for children!! They are such charming companions with dynamic personalities!
