My beautiful and hilarious little parakeet, Strat, (short for the Stratacaster guitar, since he loved rock music) passed away a few months ago, after 7 years of fun and craziness. Just got an IRN!
:blue2: Hello all!

I've been looking around for a good forum with a strong community and I'm happy I found this one!

My beautiful and hilarious little parakeet, Strat, (short for the Stratacaster guitar, since he loved rock music) passed away a few months ago, after 7 years of fun and craziness.

I'm making the jump to a bigger bird, and have a Indian Redneck on the way! I am so excited but also a little nervous! I've done my research, and took my "bird-safe house" to the next level, and can't wait for him or her (hoping for a him, since birds singing and making all their fun & happy noises is one of the many favorite things about birds for me) I pick up my new little buddy on Thursday!

I'm looking forward to posting photos of him/her and sharing my new little friend!

I also look forward to interacting with the people in this community!

Thanks Inger and Laura!
He or she is blue. I haven't picked a name yet. Of course, for that color there's Sky or Skye, Blue or Bleu, but I don't know. I'm thinking about Sam, which can be Sam if a boy, or Sam, short for Samantha if a girl. With my last bird, his name just came to me after getting to know him. We'll see.

Welcome!!

I am a certified IRN addict and my first irn ever was a blue female named... BLUE! Lol. Actually her name is "Infantry Blue" because I happen to be married to a soldier and he named her.

I think you will love the community here; I know I do! Show us pics!! We love pictures and updates!

On the left is Kam, middle is my girl Blue! And on the right is one of my rescues, Hamilton. I know he looks shaggy but he is a hundred times better than he was!

Welcome to you and your future baby! Ringneck's can make fantastic pets if you're willing to put the time and effort in, I don't think anyone here would change theirs! Make sure to read all them stickied threads on each sub-forum you'd be surprised at how much info can be interchanged and adapted to different species

Silversage you have a progression of "floof" going on there!

Thanks SilverSage. Great photo! Beautiful family of Ringneck! Blue is a great name for her! :)
Thanks LordTriggs. Yeah, I've been spending waaaay too much time reading through those pinned threads! Sure is worth the investment of time. I want to do all I can to make my new little friend's life a happy one!

Welcome!
OMG the anticipation and excitement - such an awesome time :D
I'm only 95% sure our blue is a male. We've named 'him' Clarke. If he turns out to be a female, then Clarke is in reference to Amelia Clarke, from Me Before You.
I'm in NZ and it's Thursday...so are you hours away from your IRN coming home, or have you got a week to go?

Thanks David and ItchyFeet!
Yeah, so... Good news and not as good news. ;)
Good news: My new little beautiful buddy arrived early!
The not so good of news: His (or hers) new big home doesn't arrive till tomorrow afternoon. :( So my new not so little friend is in a parakeet cage for about 24 hours. :(
He (or she) is prancing around, looking for any corner or weakness to try to pull a Houdini on me. I think I have it secure, and I'm going to build the new home as soon as possible when it shows up!
I'm in Idaho, USA, so it's about 7pm here... About 20 more hours of being cramped up. Really good news: The new home will feel like a mansion tomorrow! :D

Now that he (or she) can't see me, he is chattering quite a bit! And talking back when I reply. He sounds like a large (and very cute) squeak toy so far. lol

Congrats to be! IRNs are so cute, and their little voices! In fact my parrot , Salty, learns most of his speaking from watching IRNs on youtube. And he is an Amazon. But let him watch a IRN video, and he will say exactly the same thing they do. Good Luck!

Thanks Wrench13!
So, a question for anyone who might know the answer... do Indian Ringnecks normally make a grinding sound with their beaks when getting ready to go to sleep? Of course, it is his first night that he's here, so every little thing is scaring the snot out of me. LOL! He is sitting on a pearch, not eating anything, then all of a sudden he starts moving his head up and down, opening and closing his beak and odd grinding sounds come out. Freaky sounding as heck! But, on a positive note, he, on the other hand, doesn't seem freaked out ar all... and trust me, since it's his first day here, I've pretty familiar already with what him freaking out looks like. Looks like I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue! (Just kidding! That's a quote from the movie Airplane)

beak grinding before sleep is a good sign of a happy content bird!

As far the head moving he could just be sorting himself out for sleep or trying his hardest not to nod off to sleep

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums, thanks for joining!! My condolences for your loss of Strat. No doubt the fine memories gave you encouragement to adopt another bird. You'll find your IRN to be comforting.

Congratulations on the arrival, but a short time in a temporary cage shouldn't pose a problem. Hope the mansion arrives today!

Beak grinding is the sign of a contented parrot. Your bird is happy when doing that, no worries.

Thanks Lea & Scott! And thanks again LordTriggs and Wrench!
It was really loud and unsettling since I don't recall my conure doing that. (Although, that was a long time ago.) Strat didn't do that either, but now that I think of it, he did always chew on his cuttlebone or mineral block right before he went to sleep. Maybe that was his version of this. Good to hear it is a sign of contentness since all of his activities seem to be around how to Shawshank out of there! LOL If he hangs up a poster of Rita Hayworth, I'll really get worried that he's making progress.
