Hello to everyone!
With lots of time on hand after I got retired from WCB after a work related accident, my doctor mentioned that I should get a pet to cope with my daily pain. (CRPS) I did end up with 1st two Peach face Lovebirds. Couple days later I adopted a couple black masked Fisher Lovebirds, 2 years later my wife liked the yellow Peach face Lovebirds.....

Ohhh well. This guys a very funny all day long. Our friends started to love them too. One got the 1st surviving baby Fisher Lovebird, another friend took the 1st two Lovebirds of our hands: "I love them and I like them for our grandchild..." Actually I was kind of sad seeing them going because they were my favorite birds.

OK. Couple days later, I browsed online, I did find an ad that someone is giving away a IRN, age "around" 7 years old. We are the 3rd owner already for this poor bird. I'm trying now that she stops to try to bite us...

But I am still confused on how a IRN should look a like? She is green, has the ring but a dark brown beak. Is she a "mix" with a green Conure??? Ohh well... I hope she stays with us for the rest of her life. :51:

Welcome to Parrot Forums, the place where Parrots send their owners to exchange stories on how their Parrots are driving them crazy. Normally, it doesn't take long to understand that is just the way life is when owned by a Parrot!

Stop by the Forums and search for your Parrots species and nose around a bit, there should be photos of other Parrots. As a quicker way, just take a photo of your Parrot. It is very rare for there to be that kind of cross, more than likely a variation of the Species group.

Behavior is always a problem when one up-sizes in Parrots. They tend to get much smarter quickly and the Human needs to understand that a Parrot has no natural reason to trust a Human. Your Parrot has had that proven to it several times. If you always work to develop a reason to trust you, with time they will. Understand that your Parrot has been screwed over by several Humans and you are starting from a much deep place then normal!

Let me say, that although this process will take longer, when your Parrot does elect to trust you!!! The trust bond is much stronger and deeper than you have yet felt with a Parrot. Up to this point, they have been entertainment. With a larger Parrot, it is a relationship! Remember, only good things happen when Humans are around.

A tool that does work! Change your vantage point! Its not what you want, it is what they need! Or another way of looking at it: It is NEVER the fault of the Parrot! It is ALWAYS the fault of the Human! By looking at the relationship from this vantage point, you can more quickly see what 'you' are doing wrong and correct it!

Remember, they have no natural reason to trust us! So, we must daily work to provide them a reason to trust us!

Try is method of working with your Parrot and you will find greater joy!

If your IRN has a ring, then it is a male. With the dark beak, could he possibly be an African Ringneck? How big is he?

No idea why the picture is sideways. That’s our Parrota. She moved from her cage to a one much nicer one last week. Parrota takes food out of my hands but that’s it so far. Other than that, she would love to eat us alive. But that’s fine. She is flying around and goes back into her cage on her own. I wished our Lovebirds would learn it from her. There are little rascals.

Okay. You were right. It’s a ARN and not a IRN. So much to people who don’t know what they sell to people like me who have no clue what they buy...... But still. Looks like she is a rare bird too... If she is a she... ?? Reading more about ARN now. Thanks for the input!

A short update:
Now after a couple weeks, our ARN is getting use to us. She was on my shoulder and today for a short time, twice actually, on my arm when she picked up her apple treat.

That is wonderful progress! I'm so happy Parrota is settling in so well.

A short update:
Parrota is now greeting me every morning, asking to pet her back. At daytime, she calls me for more petting. That is a huge progress I think. ��
