I am not new to this forum, but I have not been on for well over a year. My bird was a parrotlet named kiwi. And I miss her so much, but we had to rehome her when we decided to move from San Diego, here to Maui a year ago. I would have brought here in an instant but parrotlets are on the list of birds that are banned here. At the moment I do not have any birds. But eventually hoping to have another one day. Anyone else on this forum live on Maui or surrounding islands?

Thanks Scott! Its been almost a year since Ive moved to Maui. I have seen almost no parrots here. I have seen a few very well taken care of birds at one of the resorts. 2 were Macs and the other was a Cockatoo. They were all very talkative and friendly. And there is a guy who has parrots on the island that he uses to make money taking pictures of tourist with his parrots. He is located in Lahaina. I have tried talking to him, but unless its about money, he isn't very sociable. There are a couple of breeders on the Big Island, so I am looking in to them. I would love another parrotlet, but they are banned here. I told my husband, lets see how I feel in a year. A year is almost up and I long to have a bird again. Makes me sad how much I miss Kiwi, even though I know she is fine and well cared for. But still breaks my heart and i still get emotional about it.

Well, I'm a very long way from where you are, but I do know a place that I would recommend that you start: Your Island Vet!

It is very possible that your Island Vet may not be qualified or certified in caring for Avian clients, but may work with the Birds that are common on your Island. That will at least help. In addition, that Vet will likely know what Parrots are on the Island and whether any are available. That Vet will also, know the Vets on the other Islands and may provide you contact information.

Enjoy the search!

Hi, Wendy! Good to see you back!

Dani (SilverSage), just moved from Hawaii. But she might be able to guide you in the right direction so far as reputable breeders and good vets are concerned.
