Hey, Im Hope.
Im going through a rly hard time in my life right now. but my birds keep me going. I also have a beautiful Betta, and 3 neon's that live w/ him.
Some days I wonder y I was ever born into such a **** world.
I rly just want to add myself to this site, to hopefully make some freinds, and learn more about caring for my birds.
I have had my guys for about 5 yrs. not rly counting lol.
But my point is i have learned a lot, through trial and error. and I would luv to have ppl around to ask imput on, when I run into a situation, with my birds.
my birds r rly great. they never bite, and they luv to talk and give kisses!
my only complaint is crystal, female parakeet, always ends up fighting with angel male cockatiel. Kiwi my little luv bug, He had a fall and got hurt, vet gave him medz, hes better now! but we have 2 be careful, cause hes rly clumsy. he will just dive right off anything no matter how high, and just belly flop. we r letting thier wings grow out. and vet said we have to kinda teach kiwi 2 fly, cause ever since he was a wee baby, from the store, his wings have been too short so mama bird gets 2 teach kiwi how to fly

Hi hope, welcome to the forum its great to have you here and sorry to hear your having a hard time at the moment life can be that way sometimes but stay vigilant ok and keep your chin up, things can only get better.

Lots of lovely people here who know a lot more about birds than me, very kind and helpful.

Just got my first Parrot 3 week ago, a little Quaker who is slowly but surely turning me into a woman lol.

Anyway if you want to talk about anything please do and keep your head held high, you must be a really wonderful person to care for so many birds x

I'm not experienced with parakeets and cockatiels, but given their size difference it may be necessary use great caution when they are together. The problem may be territorial and/or jealousy issues?

Welcome to the community, Hope, Angel, Crystal, and Kiwi! I love the colors on your beautiful budgies, and Angel is absolutely angelic. As for your bird's not getting along, I think you should do your best not to let them interact. I assume Angel is in a separate cage from the budgies, but only take either Angel or the two budgies out at a time. If they can be trusted while outside the cage, just try to keep them away from each other, for example one bird on your shoulder while the other is on a playgym. Ducky and Kermit don't really like each other, but aren't a threat to each other. Kermit might chase Ducky away from his perch, but that's all. Today both of them were on my arm and I created a barrier between them with my hand, and Ducky ended up bowing his head and pressing it against my hand, asking for scritches in his own tiel way.

Welcome to the forum. Totally agree with your sentiments. When all else falls, birds speak. Cute pics of your birds especially of Angel.

You hang in there fella, you have to keep that flock together. Help the little one to fly again for sure, little steps at a time ok

Beautiful birds! Especially your tiel! I love cockatiels with a enormous passion. I would think that a tiel could take care of him/her self in the face of a parakeet when it comes to size but they are generally sweeter demeanor I guess so keeping them separate will help. Sometimes birds just don't get along. My cockatiel prefers to perch either on my shoulder or alone on her perch. She doesn't like my other birds but she doesn't fight with them, just runs away when they get close. Before my lovebird flew away she would try and interact with my tiel but she wouldn't have any bit of it.

yea, very possible, i have noticed crystal she can be very mean, even 2 us, me and my girlfreind. if shes in her cage, or on top of the cage. One of us will at some point go to grab her for luv and kisses :07:
and she will literally reach out and bite u. she is always sweet to us the rest of the time. she hasn't ever bitten hard enough to draw blood, and it never rlly even hurts. she does have an anxiety problem it seems thou, if you hold her for longer for than just a couple seconds or even look at her for too long, she starts panting.
shes a sweet heart, but she gets scared rly easy it seems.
kiwi and crystal have a few fights here and there, but much less than her and angel. maybe cause they r both keets?

kiwi is my bud! I cuddle with him for 10 mins, and he follows me around the house for the rest of the day. :09:

last night i came home a little late from an outing. omg! i had JUST walked in and kiwi cussed me out! he was like chirp! chirp! chirp! chirp! chirp! chirp! it was silent before I walked in lol :smile020:

yea, i dont have a seprate cage
i acutally thought about getting a nice play gym though, my guys are free roaming. the cage is always open. and I keep a lamp on by thier cage at night so they dont get scared.
i dont like locking them up, theres no reason, i have no other pets, and no kids. and angel if hes locked up in the cage for more than 5 secounds, he starts running back and forth

it always breaks my heart to hear a bird that flew away
I had a loveing keet fly away from me. I had just had galbladder surgery, and never had a chance 2 trim her wings. it was winter time. snow on the ground. I opened the slider door to our balcony. and I didn't realize my gf had missy, our most loved parakeet out. she flew right out the door.
we could hear her in the trees. but they were so tall, and there was so many we couldn't even see her. it tore me up, so much.
now that I think of it now yrs later. I should have called an animal shelter for help or something. they might have been able 2 find her or get her.

I think you should definetly give Angel her own cage, no wonder they're fighting! Different species of birds don't usually get along well enough to share a cage. Leaving them out all the time can be a hazard. Your previous bird flew away, and you don't want that to happen ever again, especially since their wings are growing out (it's wonderful that you're teaching them to fly). You can open the door and not know where the birds are because their cage is always open. You need to supervise the birds whenever they're out. At night, you should be locking them in their cage. You have to realize that it's for their own safety, because they're flighted now and you don't want them to fly away unexpectedly.

I still trim their wings, for safety reasons. but not as much like I used 2. I guess Kiwi had gotten injured because his wings were toooo short and so instead of flying or gliding 2 a safe land, he would hit the ground like a rock. so we are still trimming, but much less! im not concerned about these guys flying off. we actually take our birds outside with us. more during the summer than like right now. they just LOVE it,. they never really try to fly off. except a few times in the past. I guess angel decided to fly off my gf sholder, and my gf went to pick him up, and he kept walking down the sidewalk. ha-ha! i started laughing cause my gf was like ok! were gonna go! were u gonna sleep? what u gonna eat? it gets cold at night!
then after all of that, angel started walking back lol.

my apartment building is weird. my front door doesn't open 2 the outside, so if they flew out my door for someone reason they would end up in the hallway

Don't take them outside without a harness! You say they never try to fly off, but one day something will spook them and they will catch a gust of wind, and they'll be gone! A much better way to take them outside is to get a harness for Angel, and take the budgies outside in a carrier (unfortunately, they don't make budgie sized harnesses). If you take these simple precautions, you can leave them fully flighted! They are much healthier and happier. People take their clipped birds outside, didn't realize that a couple flights have grown in, and the bird is gone!
