Hi, I just registered. The user name stands for Brilliant And Beautiful Girl I have fallen in love with parrots, however sadly I do not have a companion yet and I hope I can soon adopt. I have little experience however I'm patient and driven when I set myself up for a challenge. I know no matter how much I read or learn about parrots it will never fully prepare me for for a parrot. I can only hope to find a willing person willing to give me a chance. I'm currently in high school and am excited to be in this community of parrot lovers.

Welcome and be welcomed. Generally recommended that one finish school and is stable. Parrots do not do unstable well.

Welcome! This is a great place to gather information from knowledgable people before getting a bird. I would also personally recommend looking into spending some time with birds and getting some hands-on experience before making a long term commitment. I have two conures that I love, but can tell you that I have gained some valuable experience volunteering at a parrot rescue once a week. I still do this every week - and love that I get exposure to a variety of species without having them live with me. I have learned so much about the differences between species, the types of issues that can come up, what kind of birds suit me, and how to care for them - and of course, I find it really rewarding to spend time with birds that need some attention :). Good luck in your research and I hope you find the perfect companion when the time is right!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thanks for joining, take it slow! A companion parrot is much like a perpetual 2 or 3 year old. Immensely rewarding but a lot of work and self-sacrifice at times. Learn all you can, particularly first-hand experience at a rescue or shelter.

Instead of you getting a parrot, can your parents adopt a parrot? then you can play with him ALL the time and when you're more settled, adopt him/her for yourself....I mean if your going on to college or whatever at this point in your life your going to have a LOT going on.

Otherwise I'd wait. And enjoy from afar.

And welcome to the forums! Learn all you can, I wish I had learned here first.
