Catalina Macaw
Hello. I adopted a Catalina Macaw last night. She is 4 years old. From what I know about her history, she was kept in her small cage with another male Catalina and the word ornamental was used to describe the previous owners care. This is my first Macaw but I have cared for smaller birds before. She will take a lot of work from what I can tell but luckily she didn't lunge or try to bite when we moved her last night. I look forward to learning from everyone.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for adopting. Sadly, a lot of birds are looked at like ornaments and macaws are no exception. It's good that she seems more comfortable with you. Lots of others here with macaws will chime in!

Welcome and congrats on your new addition!

Your new macaw should be taken to an avian vet to get a clean bill of health. If you haven't gotten her a larger cage, now would be a great time to do that! Lots of members here own macaws and can help you if you have questions. Be sure to get her on a good diet of fresh fruits and veggies, pellets and nuts! Also be sure to check out all of birdman666's posts about macs in the macaw sub-forum, he has some excellent advice and experience with all kinds of macaws.
