Hello there maytees!

Hi guys I just realized I never posted an intro.
Name is Ralfy, I adopted a B/G macaw named captain flapjack. Or Jack for short.
I’m a stay home dad and housekeeper, it’s the perfect opportunity to tend to m6 blue master.
His story is that he belonged to a older couple and the male developed some health issued and jack didn’t get the attention nor diet he required. He was one of two (both male) pair of B/G macaws. He was cafe aggressive but I broke him of that and now I’m trying to get his beautiful plumage to return. He doesn’t have much of an appetite but he gets plenty of veggies and fruits but barely touches his pellets. What I’ve been doing is grinding down his pellets into powder and mixing in some nuts and small supreme pellets, wetting them 5hen dehydrating them into “cookies” so far so good, but I wish he had more of an appetite for breakfast and such. Oh well the story will continue.

My pellet advice...

Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.
Another couple of ideas...
My ol' man is an athlete and health nut. He actually EATS all the good stuff, so it's always around. I find that tossing various stuff into the food bowls at random is good... the variations and differences seem to stimulate curiosity and attention.
The other idea... if you can stand it (lol) EAT the stuff in front of the birds, yes. That encourages them. I have also found that if my ol' man eats stuff in front of the bird, the bird WANTS it for himself. Kinda a rivalry thing!

Jack eats some veggies and lots of fruit but it’s very hard to get him to eat pellets in their form. He forages for lots of nuts (in shell) all over his cage and play stand. He doesn’t spend hardly any time in his cage anymore. Except for night night time.
He seems to be molting now so he hasn’t been feeling 100% I’m assuming because he’s been acting like a turd.
I guess I’ll keep trying the pellets.

Hi, did you put the grooves on that perch? Good idea, Salty hates his manzanita perch- its too hard and smooth for hisliking.

Yes I put the grooves into the pvc. I have an old grinder and a flap disk to scuff it up pretty god then I used a torch (I suggest a heat gun instead) to manipulate the pipe. This is a 4” diameter piece if I’m not mistaken. I bathe the good captain. I didn’t want the wood constantly wet and rot. Like a good captain he has many accessories.
Like a foraging bowl (dog bowl filled with cardboard rocks and nuts)

And a 4 way perch to walk circles around.
Anything to change it up.
