Greetings everyone, my home in Florida has been given a new family member in the form of a 26-yo BFA rescued from an owner who no longer was able to care for him.

This is my first parrot, however I've done plenty of research on their requirements and I'm ready to put the time in with him.

I look forward to going through the Amazon posts stickied with a fine tooth comb, and giving Johnboy (peculiar name right?) a happy and fulfilling life.

Cheers!

Benjamin

Welcome to you and your new BFA! They are truly wonderful (though slightly evil:D) little creatures:p No worries though, if he's a happy healthy amazon, he will have *you* trained up quickly enough, knowing what his highness does and does not like;).

His name, Johboy, rings a bell- a tv show character from a show my parents used to watch when I was a kid. It was about old timey farmers (?) or something like that. I think that show would have been on TV about 26 years ago. I remember a character had that name, it stuck out to me because there are a lot of men named John in my family and I thought it was such a funny take on the name. I wish I could recall the name of the show now but that may be where your little buddy got his unusual name:p

Welcome to Parrot Forums and the Amazon Forum!

Within Parrot Forums is a ton of Knowledge available for gaining even a greater understanding of Parrots. The Threads in the Amazon Forum contains a vast information in the Loving and Living with Amazons!

Please take the time to read with depth the first two 'Sticky' Threads at the top of the Amazon Forum. The first is understanding Amazon Body Language and is the true first step in understanding the 'basic' body language used by all Amazons. I strongly recommend that you sit with your Amazon and Read it out loud to your Amazon, several times over the next few days, until you know these indicators cold! Your Adult Amazon uses theses and has added his own to them. So, understanding the basics, will aid in learning the additional that are his own.

One of the Strongest Tools in Working with Parrots is to change your Vantage Point.
- It is NEVER the fault of the Amazon!
- It is ALWAYS the fault of the Human!
This chance in your vantage point, will allow you to see what you are doing wrong and correct it.

The second Sticky Thread is Titled: I Love Amazons - ... This Thread is huge! It contains well over 30 Segments that will provide you information in the Love and Living with Amazons and honestly, near all Parrots.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Amazons! A Place where Amazons have more Fun! And, a Place that Amazons Rule!

And it was popular more like 40 years ago. Showing my age here!

That's it! It had to have been on TV in the 90's because even though I wasn't really allowed to watch TV much growing up, I remember hearing it on the TV when my parents were watching.

I appreciate the warm welcome and tips, everyone. He's been slowly warming up to me, and I've been reading to him at your suggestion. He certainly doesn't mind the attention.

I'm impressed you all could decode the name Johnboy for me. He came from an older gentleman so it makes sense.

I'll post plenty of pictures later tonight, he's a gorgeous bird!
