Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to bird ownership. A few weeks ago I bought 3 cinnamon conures and I am loving every second I spend with them. I am their third home and they are 4 years old.
Big Bill is the least timid of the three and I have been able to get him to step up pretty consistently.
Malcolm is curious and will come to take treats from me but will not step up.
Prudence is my scaredy bird. Very rarely will she come to me to get treats and always retreats when I try to bring the treat to her, except if its through the bars of the cage.
I am hoping that with time they will all feel comfortable and safe around me, but I am worried that because of their age and the fact that I am their third home that they will always be wary of me.

A “warm” welcome to you :).

You have a house full now, congratulations! It sounds like you are making progress with them settling in. My recommendation would just be to work at their speed, and just know that parrots are individual - some will warm up to you quickly and others will need more time to build a bond with you. But I hope I can reassure you that it is absolutely possible to build a bond with them at their age (many of us here have birds that came to us after similar situations). I’ll share my birds as an example. I also have 3 conures - all adopted or rescue, all having had multiple homes and all were adults when they came to me. Bindi was 6 and has been a cuddle-bug from the day she came home with me. Tango was 2 and has taken much longer to trust and settle in. Baby was 5 and it took her a couple of months to decide that she trusted us - she would switch back and forth between “I love you” and “I don’t know who you are” while we were building a relationship :). I feel like they all feel comfortable, safe and loved now.

There are some great threads to read on here about building trust and bonds, but please feel free to post any questions! Please share a picture of your little additions with us....

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums, rest assured Spring is just around the corner!

Congratulations on adopting 3 conures! A few weeks is still fairly early, considering you are their third home - the trust factor is not automatic.

They are flock creatures, and you'll likely find Malcolm and Prudence will eventually close the gap with Big Bill. You may find this thread helpful: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html
