Hey everyone!

My name is Lindsey and my B&G baby is named Erebus. He will be 3 at the end of may. I did alot of searching before finding this forum and I am in need of some advise/help with my feather baby. Some background info on him and I. I have had him since he was 8weeks old. My ex syringe fed him. He was never the bird that would willingly go to anyone but the 2 of us but if asked to do so would for a few minutes. He is trained to poop only on his stands and so has all his flight feathers. He waves and has a pretty large vocabulary for a B&G. I can do just about anything to him and I know that he is extremely attached to me. I have since moved in with my bf (not the one that hand fed). He has 3 kiddo. The transition has been hard on Erebus. I used to be able to be around ppl with him out of his cage or with him even sitting with me. Now that has changed and continues to get worse. He has started to hiss and lunge at anyone who comes near me. My bf tries so hard with him and he used to fly over and sit on him or climb all over him if he was sitting next to me. Now he flies over to him just to be mean, to knock him on the head with his beak or try to bite him. He won't even take anything from him without doing it aggressively and then throwing it on the floor. Recently its been him trying to lunge and bite other ppl and in the process him getting me. Im at a lose for what to do with him. It breaks my heart.

When he bites i put him right back in his cage and ignore him for awhile, but he is making me lose trust in him. My sweet baby who only used to want to "give kiss" all the time has turned into a not so nice boy.

The progress with him learning to trust my bf seems like its now gone. And i have no idea where to start over from here. I need serious help.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums, Lindsey!

I have never had a young macaw, but wonder if Erebus is reaching sexual maturity at age 3. More experienced macaw parronts will give better guidance.

If so, be prepared for behavioral changes, particularly when hormones herald the beginning of breeding season. He may view you as his mate

It is also possible this behavioral change is entirely associated with your new "family." Parrots are quick to associate "like" vs "dislike" with specific people.

Your new BF and kids may benefit from this thread: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html

I'd also encourage you to create a thread in the Behavioral Forum to attract more targeted responses. It would be easy to simply cut and paste your original post to a new thread, but the forum does not allow "double posting." Simply change it a bit you'll be within the rules!!

Thank you! I have wondered that also as I am aware that they reach sexual maturity around the age of 3. I will make a post in the other forum. Thank you for the link reguarding trust.

Welcome to you and Erebus! He must be a magnificent big baby. Years ago a friend of mine had an 8 month old B&G that could almost wrap her feet around my arm at the time. Don't know too much about them, but I'd wager to guess that his behavior is with the recent changes.
