Howdy folks, my name is Raj from Manila and I am in the process of planning and building an outdoor community cage. Looking to house pairs of SC, Ecletus and Blue Ring Neck. They will have dividers so don't worry. I'll keep this thread updated as it progresses. The size would be 10x8x10. :D

Welcome! I had a friend from the Philippines, beautiful scenery! I am sure your birds will love their outdoor aviary! Pics would be appreciated after the finished aviary, or even as it progresses.

Thanks smbrds! Yes, I will post pic of the landscape and the progress. Stay tuned.:57:

BTW, do I need a photo hosting site to post pics?

Re: Newbie not so much

Hi there. Just keep in mind that anything zinc plated or coated ( galvanized) is poisonous to all parrots. Wood construction only invites parrots to chew their way out, PVC piping is a better idea and is 100% waterprooof. Yep, you need a host site for pics, or you can use your space here to host pics.

Re: Newbie not so much

Update: Just ordered the materials for the construction and it should be delivered by the weekend.

I'll be applying red oxide paint first then paint it non toxic black paint. Would that be ok? Also, can I keep green and blue IRN in one cage? TIA!

Re: Newbie not so much

Update: Materials came in earlier than expected and I also went to a seller and got a pair of olive and green IRN reserved. I was not able to take a picture since the "aviary" was dark. Still in the process of looking for a pair of Red SC and a pair of eclectus.

Hello, and welcome!

May we know more of your history of bird-keeping?? What a bold and amazing undertaking! Many might learn from your experience!

Nah, you can still consider me a newbie and that is why I constantly peek on this site even signed up. I have taken cared of several birds when I was a kid but I wasn't that knowledgeable so I ended up being frustrated and gave up right away.

Question: I know I should be posting this in Conures but didn't want to start a new thread, tried searching as well. Can you keep 2 breeding pairs of conures in one cage with 2 separate nest box?

Hi Raj - that looks awesome, impressive skills!
Are you hoping to keep all of the species together in one flight, or are they going into separate flights, or 'apartments'?

Thanks itchyfeet! Each pair will be house separately.

As you can see the cage has a divider.

I'll be getting the pair of IRN this Saturday and a pair of SC this Sunday.

Stay tuned.

Hi!

Just noticed this, do you mean red factor sun conures???

If so,

STOP!! Red factor is a LETHAL GENE! Any double factor red sun babies will DIE! Keep pairs ONLY of both normal, or one red one normal bird. I repeat DO NOT pair two red factor sun conures together!!!

At first I really wanted red but given the price and just learning this. I am glad that I am getting the normal one.

Update:

Tiels are on front right. Not sure if they are happy but they looked really spooked. Spent more than an hour on the floor instead of the perch. LOL

Tomorrow and Sunday is a big day for me as I will be getting a breeding pair of IRN and a bonded pair of SC.

Update:

So happy that I was able get the a breeding of IRN (you can see the male at the back middle right and hen on top) and a bonded pair of SC. I saw that SC **** regurgitating to the hen so that must be a good sign. I have a pair of SC that I saw doing the same thing.

I also have an 8 month old SC named Bruce (LOL), I know since it's still unsexed that I am trying to train to be kept inside the house. On his first day, he already stepped on the piece of wood that I am holding and get the treat. He tries to nibble my finger from time to time and goes out of the cage but doesn't go anywhere. Hopefully I gains his/her trust more. I am still in the process of searching a breeding a pair of Ekkie, problem is it's too hard to find and very expensive.
