Hi everyone,

I am new to the parrot owner world, and I would like to learn much more about how to interact with my amazon parrot. He has been with my boyfriend for 26 years. After his wife passed away, the parrot was not close with anyone else. When I started seeing my boyfriend, he told me the bird was a biter and didn't like anyone else but his wife. After a year, I am able to pet the bird, and he likes to have me near him, but he still needs work to come out of his cage and behave more like his "old self", whatever that is.
I think he is ready to learn to step up on my hand, but I want to keep my fingers, so does anyone have a book/dvd I can reference for techniques to help make this a pleasant experience for us all??
Thanks! :green:

Barbara Heidenreich is an excellent resource and she has lots of books and DVDs available. She is a strong proponent of positive reinforcement and understanding what your parrot is "saying".
